Default Worth saving ALL my money for?

I'm a young mom (my second boy is due in 10 weeks!!) and I don't have money to buy the bag I'm lusting over, the Louis Vuitton Mahina XL in gris. But I REALLY want it, badly.

Have any of you ever had to save up for a bag? I'm currently a SAHM but will work (taking the babies with me) starting in July. If I save like a mad woman I could definitely get it by Christmas. But is it worth it? SO much money on ONE bag? What if it gets dirty or torn? Do designer companies fix things like this?

I've NEVER purchased a designer handbag from a boutique (except for Coach, does that count?) so I need advice!!

If it's the bag you really want, save up and get that bag! Don't buy another bag as a replacement. It probably won't make you near as happy. So save save save and splurge on the bag you love! Good luck

I would say, save up for it if you know you'll love it and use it for years. Sometimes I wish I had 2 or 3 high-high end bags instead of 10 mid-priced ones, but I like variety too much.

If you're sure you won't get tired of it, and you can afford it, go for it.

Save up for it if you really want it! I've shied away from buying a more expensive bag that I really wanted, then ended up buying a bunch of other, cheaper bags, that I didn't love as much and that ended up being more total than the one expensive bag I originally wanted.

So if you will definitely use it, then it is worth it.

hi, if you dont have the money for the bag...dont buy it....afterall, its just a handbag...nothing important in life. I have never saved up for a bag.....either you can afford something or you cant. Saving up should be for important things in life. take care.

hotpinkblonde I feel you. (I think the Mahina is gorgeous too....breathtakingly so!) I'm not a SAHM but I have to save up for my bags too, and for the pricier ones it takes a LONG time. You might get tempted by other things along the way, but keep your eyes on the prize! This is going to sound completely dorky, but I print or clip out a pic of whatever I'm trying to save for and keep it in my wallet or agenda so that when I'm tempted to get something else, I can easily remind myself of what I want most.

Oh I don't think it's dorky at all!! I love that idea!! It would be so me to save half of what I needed and then blow it on something else!! It's a great idea to stay motivated!! I also think it will be a good test to see if I want the bag THAT much. If I see it everyday and don't get sick of it, that's a good sign!!

I'm blessed with very generous (and all around wonderful) Grandparents and at Christmas I know they'll probably give me half of what I need for the bag..so really I only need to save half the total amount.

I've never had to really save for a bag. I either had the money, or my mom got it for me. I don't really know if I would, but if I were you I wouldn't. Babies are messy. What if the baby spits up on it or something? I know people who a newborn and he spits up on every thing. I don't think it's a good bag to have with a child under 3.

IMHO, no, b/c it truly doesn't sound like you can afford it. If you literally have to save *all* of your money, I think it is a poor move to spend it all on a bag. I understand the want, however, it just doesn't sound like this is a real good move right now...

I've heard the "No dogs with a child under 3" rule, but not regarding designer handbags!!

My babies are the reason I exsist. I'm a mother before a fashionista but I'm not putting myself of a 3 year handbag ban.

I appreciate the advice, but I'll be having more children in the future and they'll always be more important than a handbag. However, I'm not waiting until they're all grown before I buy a nice one!!

I think, in this situation, it's not worth it right now. If you're going to be spending this much money on a handbag, are you going to be able to afford other necessities? Maybe you can save up over a year and instead of trying to buy it by Christmas, you can try to buy it buy your birthday the year after this (and then you'll know you're still lusting it). I just think with a new baby on the way, there may be other unexpected things you need to spend money on and you don't want a bag to cause you to be struggling for other things. JMO obviously. If it's a matter of not buying any other handbags or extra clothing for yourself, I say go for it, but to me it sounds like it's a bit of a tight situation right now.

With all due respect, I don't believe that PP was suggesting that you put yourself on a "3+ year bag ban". However, I do believe she has a point regarding this bag and it's cost, not to mention the affordability right now. You yourself said that you were worried about it ripping or something happening to it because it was so expensive in your original post on the matter so it isn't unreasonable to think that perhaps it isn't the most baby friendly bag or best bag for your lifestyle right now.

Obviously you'll have to prioritize and decide what to do but I honestly don't think the PP meant the post in the way you appear to have taken it.
