What's your price range? I like Marc by Marc Jacobs, Botkier, and Kooba in the <$1000 range. In the >$1000 range I recommend Balenciaga.

Here's a cute MbMJ from the NM site; it's not a hobo but looks easy to carry:

For your price range, I like Boktier, B. Makowski, and Marc by Marc Jacobs. The leather on these bags is just so soft and supple.

I really like Coach leather. It's quality is uncomparable. My friend has an old vintage Coach leather purse from the late 80s, and it still looks beautiful and flawless.

But I've also heard that Rebecca Minkoff leather bags are so soft and lush. I can't vouch for it, but I've just pre-ordered my first RM bag. So I'll be able to see it for myself in two months.

I absolutely adore my black Jimmy Choo Ring hobo... got it on sale at NAP last summer for just under $800... and I consider this bag to be my HG black bag of all time!!!

It's a casual bag that looks chic as well. The lightweight "biker" leather looks distressed... there's phenomenal watersnake trim on the belts... and the hardware is not too blingy yellow-gold. Plus there are two awesome exterior side pockets... 3 slip pockets and 1 zip pocket inside... AAAAAND... the strap converts to messenger style. It's an amazing bag

yeah, it's not awesome. Don't expect fabulous quality here.

Personally, I really love Cole Haan leather. It's so soft and holds up so well.

I hear so many people just RAVE about Marc by Marc Jacobs leather, how buttery soft it is. My softest leather bag is my Balenciaga but that is over $1000.

For higher cost bags I would have to go with Balenciaga for leather and in the lower price range Rebecca Minkoff makes GORGEOUS bags and the leather is divine.

MbyMJ has great leather in the mid-priced range, as does Cole Haan, Botkier, HH, and, occasionally, Kooba. In the higher-priced range, I love Gucci and BV.
