I am contemplating buying a RM mini Nikki but what keeps stopping me is the open top with just a snap closure, which I know is the way a lot of bags are being made today. I haven't bought one because my heart still wants to buy a BV but I was wondering how everyone felt about a somewhat open bag?

Well, I'm not really a fan of open top bags but this bag you're thinking about fits tightly on the shoulder so there is hardly and chance of someone stealing something out of it. If you leave your bag on your passenger seat of your car and you stop quickly things can spill out....that's happened to me when I've had my bags unzipped-so annoying!!

This is a good question - I have lots of both and honestly prefer the zipper close myself. I am a little paranoid about wallet snatching etc which is probably not warranted but I like the peace of mind knowing my stuff is safe. I also find the snap magnets annoying - they often don't match up properly without a bit of effort and then your bag ends up bulging. I have MBMJ, Miu Miu, Prada and Tod's all with this closure design - it would probably put me off buying another one.

I like the easy access of an open bag, but have friends that won't carry an open top bag because they are afraid something will fall out or someone will reach in.

I hate hate hate open top bags, even with magnetic closures. I am not scared of someone stealing something from me, but I am sort of sloppy. I don't really pay attention on how I put my bag on my lap or a chair next to me, normally i drop it sideways and it flips sometimes ahaha so I can't have that with open top bags or all my things will fall.
Of course I don't do that in public but like in the car, at my apartment, or someone's house :)

My favorite open top bag is LV Noe. It so easy to put things in and out. On subway and any crowded situation, I just pull and tie the string.

With a snap wouldn't bother me. Totally open, I'd have a hard time with.

Once upon a time I wanted a Chanel PST. I thought I could do open bags, but now I can't. Much prefer zipper close.

I don't think you should worry about the mini Nikki. You can push the flap down and it will stay closed. Plus it leaves room for your arm to hang loose comfortably too. Your items shouldn't fall out either (nor can anyone slip their hands in there). So you should be fine.

Just my opinion, but I like my bags to stay closed.

I am a mess with open bags - everything just spills out when I put them down. For some inexplicable reason, my bags are always stuffed (and the closures are useless because of it). Zipper gives me peace of mind.

I prefer open top bags. Zipper close bags drive me nuts when I'm on the go. Try getting a cell phone, business card, a pen or anything out of a zipper bag when you have a latte in your hand!

I wouldn't buy an open top bag. I almost lost my wallet in a movie theatre once (thankfully someone returned it) because I had a bag with just a closure at the top (it had a flap, but I forgot to put the flap over). I'm also too paranoid about someone being able to reach into my bag easily.

I am one of the only ones who actually prefers open top bags...I RARELY zip my bags and thankfully have had no issues. I don't live in a walking city (Los Angeles) so my bags mainly go from car to desk, but even when I'm out at a restaurant or bar I'm not one to zip...just hate all the hassle to grab my phone or lipgloss, etc :) I guess I am a pickpocket's dream!
