significant gift to myself - a poll

OK, so I finish my MBA at the end of August. I've been doing this while doing my residency, post-medical school. It, to be brutally honest, has kicked my ass much more than I thought it would. It has been so hard - it has really tested my limits and made me doubt myself. Finally finishing it Aug. 24 means so much to me. I will probably weep with relief when I submit the last assignment.

That being said, it calls for a nice gift to myself. I'm thinking $2500 and under. Do I do jewelry? An uber-fancy bag? My DH has already given me the 6-diamond WG Cartier Love ring, and I'm planning to get the thinner version with 8 (?) diamonds as a gift to myself when I finish residency next year (~$5000). In the meantime, I'm thinking either a Tiffany platinum & diamond pendant (anchor or key) (~$1600), or some large diamond hoops (up to $2500), or maybe a couple of new LV pieces. Or, I've had my eye on one of the Cartier Love necklaces for quite a while (~$1200).

Help! What would you give yourself to signify a tremendous accomplishment???

First of all, huge congratulations to you on your upcoming achievements. It does sound brutal! You definitely deserve whatever your heart desires! (And I am reading your choices with such envy!!!!!). I would do jewelry! Post pics in August when you've made your grand purchase.

I'd do the bags since you probably can't wear most of the jewelry at work (if you're doing the doctor thing instead of the business thing.). The bags you can use for both!

nice job! Since some of the items are under $2500, you can get one of those and something else from LV! (ex. tiffany pendant and a bag)

Have you considered a nice watch? A Cartier, Chanel or any other, so many to choose from...

I like the watch idea, how about a vacation? Or put it towards a down payment on a home or car.

What a great achievement. Congratulations.

If it were me, I would personally want one big item rather than a few small ones. That might sound crazy, but I like the idea of using something and being able to say to myself "THIS is what I bought myself when I achieved something big x many years ago". With your choices, I guess that would be the diamond hoops. If it were me, I would buy one expensive LV piece (like the Manhattan GM) but that's just my preference.

I say go for the Cartier Love necklace. Sounds like you've had your eyes on it for a while, and it'll go with the Cartier pieces you have and will have in the future.
