Default Overheard conversation...

I was studying tonight at Starbucks, and couldn't help but overhear these two girls at a nearby table talking about purses. One girl was saying how she'd been to the mall that day and had "some extra spending money", so she went into a purse store (didn't catch the name), and was appalled at a "wallet-thing that was only this big" and cost about $450...then she just went on and on about how expensive these purses were.

I just chuckled to myself and wondered what the tpf ladies would think. Surely they wouldn't have been nearly as surprised at this price.

Have you ever overheard anything like this? It really gave me some insight into how the world outside our little tpf community thinks about these things, a bit of a reality check!

I was at a Nordstrom Rack yesterday and heard a teenage girl say to her mom "OH MY GOD, this purse is, like, $350! Why would anyone pay that much for a PURSE?!"

All I could think was that she really didn't want to know how much my purse cost.

ROFL!

To think that my mom encouraged this behavior; who else would have taught me about what a lady was supposed to carry?

Yeah...my coworkers had a fit when I told them how much I bought my tangerine mab for on eBay. that's why i always dread telling people how much i pay for purses. i know in my circle, that most people are not purse obsessed like i am.

sometimes it really does make me feel bad. but then again, nothing makes me feel better then buying/getting/using a purse I absolutely adore...

Oh geez, it's not just purses, either. Nor does it necessarily have anything to do with an obsession IMO.

I've had people I've either work with or know socially make comments on the cost of everything from my purses to my shoes to my clothes to my furniture to tickets to a show.

Honestly, I'm just as agast at the cheap crap some of these people spend money on. That need to be replaced so often they fall apart. I would just never ever comment on their embarrasing choices. I often wonder why they think they have the right to comment on mine.

this is a teensy weensy bit off the subject..however have anyone ever had someone think their handbag was not expensive or a "no name" since they never heard of the designer or brand? (not to sound artificial) someone who would not know a bag because its not plastered with a logo or a name?

ie...its a lanvin...and the response is " a who" where did you get that?

Me too! But honestly I won't tell people how much my bags cost.

1. It's none of their business.
2. I don't want to dear their negative comments or disbelief.
3. It's my perogative and my passion- they probably spend lots on something else like golf or whatever, and it irritates me that they can't relate that to the purse thing and let it go at that.

Enough ranting sorry.

Once I was returning a patent D&G bag at Nordies (gorgy bag, but it went right back after a week - the handles were so stiff they hurt my hands and arm to carry!) and picked up another bag in the department, thinking ok maybe I'll exchange...

In the next 10 minutes when I was studying the bag in the mirror, a sales gal and 2 separate customers came up and asked me where I bought the bag I had on! It was my charcoal Gerard Darel, and it was decidedly un-glammy next to all the bright, slick patent leather!

I decided against the exchange and went home to call my fav s.a. to mailorder something else with the funds. Suddenly my Gerard Darel was enough for me! lol

Could not agree more!

If my dh can spend $$ on a new golf club I can spend $$ on a new bag!

Yes! I never disclose how much I pay for my purses to other people including my friends..they would think I was crazy.
