Hello TPFers...I hope you guys can help. I am looking for a genuine leather crossbody bag under $500. I have scoured the mall and online and have basically found two types: those around $500 and made in China (Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Reed Krakoff, etc.) or those over $500 and often times a lot more but not made in China (PS11, Chloe, Alexander McQueen...) Are there no in-between options? TIA. I'm happy to purchase from a store aboard

Personally $500 is too much for a bag made in China.

Completely agree...I nixed a $200 one from J Crew because of its manufacturing origin

You really just have to go out there and look. Bloomingdales would be a great start as they have premier and designer bags. While I agree with Denton on price and origin, today it is hard to tell what is really created in Italy, France or Spain anymore. The ones that I know of that don't manufacture their entire line in China is: Gucci, BV, Chanel and LV. Unknown to the market, a couple of those companies are outsourcing a percentage of their bags.

Try to stick to good quality and great leather and you can't go wrong. Take your time and enjoy shopping!

It's a bit over your budget (maybe you can get a deal going on), but I have this bag in black and I love it. Salvatore Ferragamo Graziella Cross Body

Oh and I forgot! Radley London has some really cute bags too. I'm almost certain the bags are made in the UK.

Look at Brahmin- the Jody, Cleo, and Mojito. Some bags are made in the US and some in China- just specifically request.

Of course, I love my Gucci as well

Some Furla is made in Italy--you can usually find Furla on sale, and Macys has even started carrying it.

I just checked my two bags, both bought in the London Covent Garden store, and not made in UK. Both made in India.

True, Denton!
Anyway I boycott all Chinese or East-Asian made bags and clothes....

Upla makes lovely nylon and leather cross body bags for less than 200 euros.
The quality is exceptional and the bags are made in France.
You will find them in all sizes and colours and Upla ships to the US!
Have a look at their website.
