After a horrific week. I purchased my beautiful handbag when NM added new items to their sales page.

I have been so excited about this new bag, and it came today .

The box it was shipped in was 14 x 14 x 7, the handbag is 14 1/2w x 12t x 8d, it was shipped in its sleeper bag, lacking any packing material. The handbag was minimally stuffed and the handbag suffered.

It's patent with a permanent crease where the person packing the bag folded it over to fit in a box that was 1 inch too short. What buffoon thought that this was a proper way to ship a handbag is way beyond me.

It breaks my heart on soo many levels. I wanted this handbag, I needed this handbag, I had been stalking this handbag, and now it was on sale and mine.

I also passed up a few good sales because I had purchased this handbag

And with a cavalier - just return it and we will refund your money - just make me want to cry.

I purchased it because I wanted it and now I am sad and irked and dismayed and peeved, and I want my handbag!

sorry about what happened... you should call NM customer service and complain... then ask for an exchange with proper packaging!!! you deserve a perfect bag even when it's on sale!

I am so sorry this happened to you, poor bag, some people are just clueless about how to handle anything with care. I hope everything works out with whatever you are planning to do keep or return. Stupid NM should have been more compassionate though, you should receive stuff you order in the same condition it appears on the website.

Barneys sent me a $2000 (Not on sale) Lanvin bag in a similar way -- just in the dustbag with a thin sheet of paper around it. The box was so thin that it was damaged in shipping. I had to return the bag, which was damaged, and am still waiting to get the promised refund for the return shipping. They wanted to give me a gift card, after promising to pay me for the shipping! Uh, no. I want the money credited to my account.

Berta, of course you wanted the bag. None of us PF members order bags unless we do want them. What the heck though, them using a box that was too small? That's such a shame. I'm so sorry this happened to you.

O man, that sucks! I get so angry sometimes when I go to "high end" retailer (rather than eBay, consignment stores, etc.) and get same or worse service.

I would call them and see what kind of resolution they can offer you. I had a similar thing happen to me before and I got an extra 20% off the cost of the bag credited back to me (in my case it wasn't a really noticeable damage).

Lulilu, OMG a 2000 handbag from Barneys and they handled it like old newspaper?

Thanks for the kind words, I know I am handling it like a baby. I guess the stores don't realize how personal we take our bags. Like I always like to take them to nice places on their first outtings. Silly, but there are places that a nice handbag should never be.

Well I need to go shopping for a new handbag I guess. Really love the Lagoon HH hobo, but I need a black patent.

When is the Nordstrom sale again?

Any suggestions on a black patent. I wear patent all year long, pretty much any color, except for white and orange (ramble ramble).

You would think that stores like Neiman Marcus, and Barney's would put a bit more into it especially with all the shipping costs you are paying.

Nordies sales starts on 5/21. If you have a SA you work with, they should be able to start pre-selling on 5/19 (that's when I've been told they find out what will be part of the sale)

As for your current issue w/ the bag from NM, so sorry. I expect when I order something from a high end retailer, that it comes packaged perfectly. IMO, you shouldn't expect anything less. Tell them you are upset & tell them what they need to do (send a new bag, knock off a %, whatever it would take) to make you a satisfied customer. Hope it works out for you. Good luck!

Sometimes, NM's shipping just baffles me. I received a Miu Miu in a box that was way too large and the bag wasn't protected by anything--it had been bounced around in the box. The online business is actually separate from the retail stores, although you can return items from the website to the stores. When I've called a store to have something sent, it's much better packaged.

I'm so sorry some idiot thought he could bend a (patent!) purse like a newspaper to fit it into the wrong size carton.

You are not handling it like a baby, you have every right to be upset, especially after all that time watching for it to go on sale. I try to change my thinking around to make myself feel better when stuff happenss. If this happened to me, I would try to think this was not the right bag for me, and the next one will be much better You know, it all happens for a reason...
