How do you tell a real Prada from a fake?

I just received a new Prada bag as a gift and it feels like quality leather and all, but the optional longer strap inside looks like there's a thin swab of glue or something left on it. -and I couldn't find a purse bag inside like many expensive bags have and my mom's authentic Prada had. I also don't have a style number to look up either. How do I tell if it's real? ( My brother got it for me and he's not cheap but tends to look for deals.)
