Default How Beat-up Does Your Bag Need To Be Before You Let It Die?

Ripped lining, stains, scratched leather, busted zips?

I have a seemingly-indestructible pink and brown suede Prada bowler I've been using for the past four years. But I had to stitch the inside lining and repair the mobile phone pocket. The handles show signs of wear and there's a small mark on the front. But apart from that it's perfect. Think I'll just give her some TLC and she'll be a sprightly senior!

Pretty bad, actually! If I love it a lot, I'll wear it as long as it's not embarrassingly beat up

I am so bad about the pristine looks of my bags. If one gets a smudge or stain on it, it goes to consignment right away, or to one of my friends who know what a bag freak I really am and can accept wearing one with a "patina".

I don't let my bags get beat-up to the point of "dying" anymore, but I used to when I was in high school.

I had a no-name bag that was black and covered in black sequins (I LOVED it, haha) and I used it until a bunch of the sequins that were on the side that touched my body were all rubbed off.

i don't beat my bags up too much...unless i buy a used one that's already beat up..then i don't really care. I would retire mine if it was unusable anymore.

I rotate mine so they never really get beat up. On vacation the third strap broke so I removed it and it was fine.

Depends how much I love it. If it's a bag I really love, it'll have to be REALLY beat up before I throw it away. But if it's a cheap fashion bag, I donate it when it's still wearable.

I pamper my bags so I haven't had to retire any. I also try to choose carefully....if a bag gives me a fragile impression I'll skip buying it (even if I love it) .... I own no white bags due to dirt fear. I did once purchase a bag from Coach that I literally had dreams about.... light blue optic sig duffle....gaw that bag was divine...icey blue... but I was a neurotic mess every time I carried her! I was afraid of anything getting on her. I had to give her up.

I have Coach wristlets I've beaten up pretty good, tho, and all of them still look pretty good so none of them are up for retirement either.

I'm 2 dif girls. I have bags I baby, and others I wear knowing they might (prally wll) get destroyed... Bags that go on dog walks and boating trips, long subway rides or bustrips, even gardening shopping! These sort of bags can get a bit roughed up. And that's okay. If I run out of hands or arms, I need a bag that can get bumped!

They get used until they're damaged. The nice bags get stored in dust bags, on bag pillows, sometimes even wiped down after it gets in every few days.

I"m almost 2 dif girls with my bags!

I don't have a "beat-up" bag simply because I rotate using my bags and don't
throw them around--expensive or inexpensive. I do have bags that shows slight
wear on corners but not to the point of falling apart.

Well, it depends on the bag. Some bags are meant to take a beating, and look good when they're very worn/broken in. I can't baby a bag that is going to carry my laptop and writing stuff all over town, you know? If I go from a park bench to a coffee shop and back home again, I don't want to worry about getting a minute scratch on it.

When my Kooba Jennifer arrived, it had a few blemishes, so I went with it and now I don't worry about her. I like having some bags that I can feel okay beating up.

Some bags, however, don't look nice with a lot of wear, so I'd get rid of them if I felt like I didn't enjoy carrying them anymore. But I'm a firm believer in wearing my bags happily. Yes, I take care of them, but I'm not going to treat them like a delicate egg. It helps to have a few bags set aside for the purpose of abuse, though. I like having some "workhorse" bags, and others that stay nice. I agree that rotating your nice ones around does help.

I also rotate my bags a lot (I change bags almost daily, and sometimes even twice a day - if I am doing something in the evening or so) and take good care of them, so they dont really get beat up.

I havent had to make a decision like that yet, and I've been collecting bags for... at least 7 or 8 years.

But if it was one of my favourites, I think it would take a lot for it to have to go. But I can't really know for sure until I have to make a decision like that, I guess...
