I live in the Austin/SA area and I can tell you that one of the most fantastic things about this area is the diversity of styles and tastes. Austin is such a fantastically ecclectic place; the only real big hair I've seen is worn by a few 80's cover bands that play on 6th Street. It's a pretty casual place overall and I actually think it's the perfect place to rock your own style, whatever it is.

Balenciaga, probably not. Chanel? You might get a little drool of admiration

I absolutely don't think so! Go with your own style, that's what's great about Austin.

BTW - this is a great thread! Nice to see some other Texas folks! Maybe a meet in the future in Austin or San Marcos now that the weather is nice????

Oh, I just happened upon this thread! Glad I saw it. I live near Lubbock but have a home on Lake LBJ as well. Texas is an awesome place to live imo.

I carry Prada and Chanel. Anything goes in Austin, for sure. And, like kroquet said, go with your own style! I'm actually going to SA on Saturday---don't know that I'll get to go to La Cantera but if I do I will be looking at the bags I see.

Around here I see lots of Coach.

No, you won't stick out in Bal or Chanel

I live in Austin and I love it (besides the heat)! I am from the Northeast originally and have lived in Austin for 4 years. Trust me, I was terrified to move to Texas because of all the things I had heard but so far it has been great! Everyone is so friendly and there is so much to do in Austin.

As far as fashion goes, like everyone has said already said, it is very casual. I do see more designer bags at the upscale shopping center. I even saw a girl rockin some beautiful Louboutins at Whole Foods! All of my bags are Chanel and I do not feel like I stick out at all. My DF and I are in our mid-20s and we go downtown quite a bit - I do see a lot of LV and have seen some Chanels when I am at the restaurants/bars there.

Actually, quite the opposite - no one will notice. They'll just think the Bal bag is from Target (remember those horrid knockoffs) and the chanel is from the mall. LOL. Austin is progressive. Lots of greenies - conciencious types that monitor their carbon footprint and so on. You'll see lots of electric/hybrid cars. And yes, great music. The bal and chanel bags will tend to be more 'appreciated' in a city like Dallas - and then again. . . just in some areas.
