I think there are several reasons these bags are not leather. One, the designer bags for Target are supposed to at an accessible price point. Also, I think the participating designers are very sensitive to their customers concerns (those that have purchased bags from the luxury line that is) that there is a clear cut difference between the bags produced for Target and the expensive bags they have have previously purchased. In other words, some customers would be very unhappy if there was not a clear cut difference between their $1000 Gryson bag and the one for $49.99 at Target.

agreed but thanks for the detailed review

I saw these bags at my Target last night. They are very nice! No they are not leather, but I think a quality vinyl/plastic is far better than a cheap, stiff leather. I like the black satchel with the braided handle best- but that handle will not fit over my shoulder, and I have to have a shoulder strap. The large bag with the woven front is cute, but I found it too long. The big tote with the clear front would make a great diaper bag! I also saw a couple of messenger styles, I believe in black and white. I did not pay much attention to them because I am not a messenger bag person.
I definitely would buy that braided handle bag if the straps were longer! I would keep it for fall, it looks like a fall and winter bag to me.

I also wish the designers would make something in leather for the Target lines, although I do understand wanting to keep their designer line customers happy. I'm just not a fan of bags that are PVC in general; it seems leather just holds up better in the long run. Although, PVC can't be beat for rainy days!

yea, but Target does offer leather bags for <$50 so they could still design a bag at an accessible price point in leather -- and they don't have to do the entire line in leather. Just one or two designs would be nice. That way, buyers have the option of a leather bag for a little more (even $60, instead of $50 would be reasonable!), or a non-leather (PVC) one for a little less ($39.99) -- Even if they did make 1 or 2 of the bags in leather, they certainly would NOT be the same (or even close) to the full line bags. When you pay $900 for an Olivia, you're getting thick calf leather, suede lining, and heavy duty brass hardware. A $50-60 leather bag is not going to be anywhere near the full line bag. It would likely be cowhide or a similar lower quality leather, it wouldn't be lined with suede, & the hardware certainly wouldn't be as nice so I don't see why customers would get upset (I dont get the whole thing anyhow -- I own a full line Gryson and the Target line excites me doesn't upset me)

I work for Target and I agree w/ all of you...not sure why we don't do a leather version of these designer's bags. Personally, I like all of these Grysons, but I'm not paying $30-$50 for PVC. I guess it must have something to do w/ the designers wanting to keep the "originals" differentiated from the "Target bags."
I might warm up, however, when the Botkiers come out late this summer...very excited to see those!!

I bought the white one with cutout handles this morning online, and I bought a clutch on clearance for $6 dollars so I could get free shipping.
