It never fails to amaze me how many people lie about their purchases to loved ones on here. Perhaps, the mentioned loved ones give them warnings because they know you really can't afford your purchases? Anyway, I don't think it'd a good idea to knowongly lie to loved ones. if your b/f, or husband. found out, why would he believe you never lied about any thing else?

It's one thing to decline stating the cost of an item -- but this mostly applies to friends and acquaintances, not people truly close to you like a significant other or parents. If I shared my finances with anyone, like a husband, I wouldn't dream of lying to him about his own money! |

My friends have no clue that the bags that they occasionally admire when we go out together cost as much as they do, and I most certainly don't tell them. My family has a better idea, and has seen my closet where the're all lined up nicely, and they think I am totally fruit loops. That being said, even they would say that what I do with the money that I earn is entirely my business. I haven't made them sacrifice anything to pay for my addiction, so other than occasionally shaking their heads collectively at their nutty mother/wife, they pretty much leave me alone.
In my view, you know if your buying is out of control. If you're not lying about your purchases, your rent/mortgage is getting paid on time, and you're not up to your eyeballs in credit card debt, then it's only your business how many bags you own and what you spend. Do I need as many bags as I've got? Nope. Do I care? Not a bit. They make me happy, I can afford them, and other than the fact that my one and only daughter hates each and every one of them and doesn't want to inherit them, I couldn't care less! |

I'm very open about the cost of my bags, but my family does think I'm crazy. I would just rather buy one nice thing than ten not-so-nice things. To each his/her own.

When I got out of college and I wanted nice things, I worked a second job and got them. After a while I focused on my career and made that my only job.
My family knows sometimes I have some expensive taste but they know I have always worked very hard for what I have. Nobody close to me has ever given me a hard time. I love them for that. |

Honestly, I don't care what they think, I get sly remarks from most of them, jsut recently my mom told me buying a pair of Chanel shoes was a SIN
I could have died right then and there! I was like what about when you were my age ... That's not fair Lady...she hurt my feelings so I won't share my handbag joy with anyone but the lovely people on this forum and occasionally DH

I don't need the 50 or so bags I have, and I don't need 300 pairs of shoes but as I used to say to my mother, it's not about need. Having exactly what I want when it's time to pull an outfit together makes me happy. I take care of my stuff, my mortgage gets paid, and it's not illegal or immoral. OK, so it is addictive but at least I am not ruining my health, LOL!

Well, craziness seems to run in my family...just in different ways! So...yes, they think my obsession is a bit crazy, but they also think, "oh, that's just how she is!

My BF thinks I'm crazy. He bought me my dream purse for Valentines Day and I went out and bought 3 more purses in the same week. Only after I pointed out his need to buy a new car every year, he immediately became understanding and supportive. Indeed, everyone has their vices!

My DH can't possibly imagine why I need and have so many bags in my collection (and it's a good one!), but he does like that I always look nice and he is pleased when people compliment me on my handbags.
The rest of my family thinks my bags are nice and they just see it as my personal interest. |

my bf can't understand it either...and I'm upfront about the prices if he asks...he'll usually shake his head and say ... "do you really need another bag"? but then he gives in and appreciates what i buy...at least i think he does hehe

Hahahaha, I graduated from college last May and I JUST started paying loans... My family DEFINITELY thinks I'm crazy. Even though it's my money... I'll have to hide my third (and final... for a while anyway) bag purchase (a Gryson... unless the sale freaked out and they have to cancel my order) from my mom, because she will TOTALLY guilt me for buying three 'pricey' bags in 4 months. My family's always been very spend-thrift and save-a-penny, so it's very alarming for them. But I promised myself to save up and make sure I have enough for loans...... but a pretty bag is a pretty bag :) |
