I don't have a huge collection of bags, I only have three - one Balenciaga City, one Marc by Marc Jacobs and a Mulberry - but I have sometimes had occasions where a non-designer bag would come in handy, ie. walking the dog in the lashing rain, going out to a bonfire...anywhere I'd be worried my designer bags would get damaged.

There are quite a few nice non-designer bags about and I am strongly considering buying a leather satchel bag from ASOS for such occasions, but I really don't know if I'd ever use it when it came down to it. I feel my designer bags have spoiled me!

Does anyone else mix and match between designer and non-designer? How do people generally feel about it?

Once I bought my second premier designer bag, I couldn't bring myself to buy even a regular designer bag. Still can't, and that's been about 3 yrs ago. I just can't do it. Don't know why. I just can't. It is the feeling of owning them and carrying them.

And I don't want a visible name plate or logo on mine. It is strictly for me and how they make me feel. I actually don't want family or friends, business acquaintances knowing what I spend on my bags. I would be terribly embarrassed!

I tried Vera Bradley after carrying LV for years. Didn't work. Though I love Dooney and Bourke esp the Florentine collection and will carry those.

I can't. Once you've had real quality in your hands, you.just.can't. It has nothing to do with snobbishness and everything to do with knowing what quality feels like and not settling for anything else. That is why one premium designer bag is all you need... and for me, it's not a question of 'feeling' - I could care less what others do or what they think of me and what I do, so there's no 'feeling' to it.

You can check out charity shops (in the UK) or consignment/used goods stores here in the U.S. to get a good used 'premium' bag for those days when you don't want to risk damaging your best bag.

I can't. After owning Pradas, LVs, Jimmy Choos I can't buy non-designer bags anymore because I think it's just a waste of money and with that money I could save up for another designer bag.

I feel the same. I have about 7 premium designer bags in my small collection and I can't see myself carrying anything less than those. Besides the status and look that they bring, the quality is so much better. I bought a cheap no name bag cause I thought it was really cute and it only took about 2 weeks for the zipper to zip right off the bag!

This sounds terribly snobbish/sad, but I really have been spoiled by designer/premier bags! Lately I have been trying to talk some sense into myself, and buying department store, faux-leather, etc. But apart from a few non-designer bags I'm pretty much back on the designer/premier labels bus again! In fact the other week I was so ticked off at all the 'cheap' bags I'd bought this year that I donated them to my local Animal Welfare charity shop and went back to carrying Burberry and Balenciaga. Thankfully I have never paid full price for any of my premier bags.

I don't think quality is restricted only to premium designer bags. I have been disappointed with the quality of some designer bags, and impressed with the quality of some non-designer bags. I look for what I like and what is well constructed and stylish - whether it is a designer or not. After seeing a lot of designer bags that are just not worth the price, I find myself actually more open to look at other bags.

I have both I tend to use my high end bags more than the low end bags. I've actually been looking more at low end bags lately. I'd recommend buying a lower end bag in person over online that way you can see how well the bag is made IRL and you don't have the hassle of returning it if you dont like it. While it is hard to find good quality lower end bags its not impossible you just have to search. If you really feel like you can't do it and still want a beater designer bag I'd check out local thrift shops, most major citys have a few high end thrift stores. If you don't live near a major city just look at thrift shops in more wealthy towns near by.

I found this cole haan bag at Nordies pre anniversary sale and I love it, I was really impressed with the quality of it. The lining is fabulous, the little tiny leather tabs on the zippers were very well done, and the hardware is really top notch. Granted I will say it is very small just enough room for the basics, wallet, cell, keys, and a few small cosmetic items. I'm just waiting till I find colors I like them in they look great in black but I don't want a closet full of black bags lol. It doesn't bother me a bit. I have a couple of *Foccos* that I bought on ebay that I absolutely love to carry!
I started out with Coach, went to LV, short sidetrack to Marc Jacobs, on to Chanel, dabbled with Kate Spade and now I'm checking out Coach again.

I have learned the hard way, after dumping butt loads of money into Chanel (and subsequently losing butt loads of money after selling them to consignment) that I am 100% convinced that most of the time you're paying for nothing but that name....
I've noticed some of the lesser expensive bags are just as well made, if not better, than the higher end brands. Just my opinion of course.
What really set me over the edge is when I ordered a Prada bag the other day from their website and found out afterwards that some of their bags are made in China. I'm pretty sure I snagged one of them. Left a bad taste in my mouth for *premier* designers, especially since I wasn't charged China prices!

Really? If a bag doesn't make me happy and feel good when I carry it, I don't want it. I don't want to have a bag that makes me unhappy.

I'm more than happy to keep on using my beloved Ted Baker even though I have a closet full of premium labels, and I don't think of my Ted as a lesser quality bag either. I only buy new tho, I wouldn't buy second hand even if vintage, I want to know I'm the only person who has used the bag

I have a roots bag I don't consider designer and love it but we werevjust at mountain coop buying travel bags and I just couldn't do it- felttgin and cheap even though I know they are good quality. Funny in high school all any of the girls in my school wore was mountain coop!

No. I've been having designer bags since a teen. Like this is nothing new to me so I can carry my simple bag from Target the same as I carry my Chanel or my Louis or my Gucci. My bags/shoes/clothes don't wear me..I wear it and I do it WELL. :)
