My Macbook barely fits into my Nikki, and it ruins the slouchiness and is very uncomfortable or else I'd love to use that. I know I won't be carrying a ton of books but I would like to fit my MacBook, a pencil bag, a water bottle, and a snack all comfortably with room to spare for a sweater or something. I'm living away from campus so I will need to have a lot of stuff with me. Thanks for all the ideas! |

I'm a med student so I know the feeling of wanting a nice bag for school. However, I just use a longchamp for heavy days or one of my favorite large handbags for light days. It is truly hard to find a nice bag that is large enough and light enough to be able to stuff books into, especially the laptop! I have a macbook and to be completely honest ... its just too heavy to go into something stylish. Whatever you end up with, make sure the bag is a light one, you will end up stuffing it and if it's heavy for starters, like most leather bags, you will end up wishing it were a longchamp. I just encourage you to be realistic about all the things you will end up carrying ... laptop, books, folders, notebook, lunch, wallet, planner, umbrella and God knows what else! Good luck!

I wish that I could find something like a Longchamp that was a little more boxy. My laptop falls all over the place in my lonchamp and so do books and notebooks and it ends up making the bag like a big box which is hard to carry under my arm. I want everything to stack up | | | | sideways like that nice and sturdy and flat.

I am in the same boat as you! I have the same computer & I'm starting law school next year. I'm not looking at bags quite yet though... I want to get it in August so I'm super-excited to carry it for the first day of school!
Oh, also- I am planning to carry a backpack (taking the train to Chicago, so I'll have to carry books in something big & durable), but throw my lunch & my bag that I will use to carry books in in the backpack. Then, my extra books/lunch/whatever else can go in my locker, and I can pull out my cute bag to carry my laptop & books for one class at a time in. HTH! |

Magdeline, that's a good idea. I just have to walk from my car so I don't think I need to do that but if I did that would be a great way to do it.
The reason I'm looking so early is because I'm already out of school and I'm a little bored, and also I want to try and get something on sale so if I start this early I think I'll be able to find something! |

I suggest a Belen Echandia Love Me! It can be worn on the shoulder or messenger style. There should definitely be enough room. The leathers come in all sorts of pretty colors and textures. Every so often, BE has a sale. If you can get an *bay deal, even better.

Yes, something structured is good, so it's easier to locate things as well. It's no fun trying to look for a pencil case in a large longchamp. I feel like I'd have to stick my head in with a flashlight or something. Heh.

It may be better to just buy a bag that is designed to carry a laptop, like a messenger style. These are padded so if you drop it or bump it your computer won't be damaged and it will also be separated and not banging against your other stuff. They come in lots of materials and sizes, there are plain leather or canvas ones or funkier ones too.
Most purses and totes just aren't designed to carry such large and heavy items. Especially lighter weight canvas bags that don't have reinforced construction, but even most leather purses aren't made for carrying textbooks and laptops. Just b/c you can fit it in there doesn't mean it's a good idea-handles will break off, the bottom could break, you could get tears on the sides from stuffing hard edged items in there. It might be okay like one day, but day in and day out it won't be good for the bag. |

I'm definitely leaning towards the Treesje. I want an Avalon or Asher but I can't decide if the regular or grande is the best for me. My laptop is 13" by 9" so it seems like it would fit in the regular of either. I don't want it to be stuffed but I also don't want the bag to look like luggage and be huge!

I am a college professor so I lug around books for a living, and have killed many bags in the process (RIP). The best bag for the job IMO (and one that won't break the bank) is a Hayden Harnett bag called the Pan-Am tote. It's cute and fits everything!
Plus it's indestructible. An other good choice that you can get customized any way you like with a million leather choices is the Ignes Francis (for laptops/books). They offer special price breaks for TPF buyers so it's worth a look! The CS and QC are amazing, as well. The website pic of it is pretty plain, but keep in mind that you can tweak the bag any way you want for no extra cost, and the colors/linings they offer are gorgeous. I personally BE and Treesje to death, but their bags are pretty heavy even when empty, so that is a consideration.

Marc Jacobs has a couple of nice looking bags and the quality is always wonderful! Here are a few to check out!
http://www1.bloomingdales.com/catalo...xx.esn_results http://www1.bloomingdales.com/catalo...xx.esn_results http://www1.bloomingdales.com/catalo...xx.esn_results http://www1.bloomingdales.com/catalo...xx.esn_results Another suggestion with the Marc Jacobs bags are the turnlock baby diaper bags! They would be great! They are large and have the waterproof inside so you can throw your book in and out without ruining the bag! There were plenty of compartments because it was made for a diaper bag. You might check some of them out if you can find them!

This is the bag I've been lusting after for awhile now. I think it'd be perfect for law school. It's no longer on Burberry's site but some other places like above have it. Burberry Bridle Check Tote
