My BFF just bought a Treesje Avalon in gray patent (see her thread: http://forum.purseblog.com/handbags-...ts-425791.html) and LOVES it for toting her laptop, etc.

I bought the Rebecca Minkoff French Tote in black patent recently and use it daily for my laptop, papers, agenda, pens, water bottle, cosmetic pouch, etc. It fits everything perfectly and lies flat to the side of the body while I'm walking around. Completely not obtrusive for quite a large bag.

I would recommend both. They are both well-made bags and will hold up well! Good luck with school!

The french tote is super cute just a little more structured and dressier than I wanted. I like smooshy bags, which I know isn't ideal for books, but still. I'm looking at the avalon and asher, not sure which one would work best.

Consider the Hayden-Harnett Sonia. It's quite large, but not overwhelming, and fits a ton of stuff.

I posted pictures of mine here, so you can get an idea of the size. It's a great-looking, sturdy bag. As far as I know, this color is no longer available on the HH website, but make sure to check ebay for good deals.

I am in law school...and as much as you might think people dress "older," they don't. They all have longchamp, coach, and DB.

I use (with no problems) RM nikkis (full size), herve chapelier 925s, and basically any other bag that has the same dimensions as my laptop or a book. Since your classes are spread out, you usually only have 1 book at a time and your laptop. I often use small bags and just carry the book and laptop. You are really only carrying them from your car to your class seat...not all over creation, so its not a big deal to just hold them.

Its all stuff you'll figure out though.

You might want to look at Kate Spade's Charlotte style then--it's square, not tall as the Griffen, but also quite large and sturdy. Or maybe a large Rudy?

Sorry for asking where you went to Law School after you already mentioned it; I hadn't read the entire post.

Congrats on law school! I'm a hopeful L1 myself. Since you want something more than Longchamp, etc, what about Tod's D-bag (or media bag - I forget the actual name). It's a tote I've been eyeing myself, once I get into law school.

Welcome to tPF! The OP (original post-er) mentions in the third or fourth post that she doesn't want something mainstream like Coach or LV. But it's nice of you to recommend her a seller!

I highly recommend Marc by Marc Jacobs bags because they're of excellent quality and the leather is soft, squishy and buttery. You can see all measurements, extra pictures and other info via the links

Marc by Marc Jacobs - Totally Turnlock Teri
I own this one and can fit my own 13" Macbook into it. It has 3 compartments that you'll definitely find a way to fill.

Marc by Marc Jacobs - Classic Q City Bag

I totally posted these for another person needing a good, everyday bag.
FYI: Zappos usually upgrades the basic free shipping to overnight shipping (free of charge) and you pay no tax. I only buy my MBMJ at Zappos.

If you're looking for something funky (funky in colors), leather, not too pricey so you can throw them around, might want to consider Baekgaard. I fell in love with them recently! The colours! They have one for laptops I think, about $175.

I'd suggest a Mulberry roxanne A4 tote. Take a look at www.mulberry.com then go to totes in the womens bag section. There is an A4 size then a ginormous size! They come in leather or vinyl.

How about the Hayden Harnett Wyeth Tote? It's funky, the opening is easy to get in and out of, it has strong handles AND a shoulder strap, and lots of organization, outer slip pockets on back, outer turnlock pockets on front, zippered inside pocket (fairly large) and three inside slip pockets. And though it looks big in the pic, it's a great size.
