I would be one of the people who actually would try this on their own as well... DH does fabulous leather work for anachronistic clothing, and is very handy with a leather punch.

Interesting idea... maybe someday when I'm not insanely busy raising young children I will make the time to try it as a fun DIY. No, it's not the same as a Real Hermes, but fun is fun and I find playing with handbags is therapeutic!

Wow, interesting video. I'm kind of suprised Hermes would put up the blueprints on their website. Won't this serve to increase the amount of couterfeits produced?

That was an interesting video, but the quality of her homemade was clearly off. When I invest in a bag I normally do it because I like the style of course but mostly it's about quality. If I wanted a cheap version I would go to F21 or Steve Madden and buy an "inspired" bag.

Wow. I'm impressed with her work. Also surprised that only 16 hours go into these bags. I though they took longer to make at those prices.

possibly, but Hermès has more demand than supply anyway and people who buy the counterfeits willingly wouldn't have bought the auth anyway (in most cases). a friend showed me the blueprints and he'd make them as little gift parcels instead of a plain box, which I think is a great idea

Just read Bringing Home the Birkin by Michael ******* and it tells all about how to circumvent the Hermes waiting list. He procured and sold hundreds of Birkins on ebay. Great read - kind of fluffy, but interesting and enthralling and very entertaining, nevertheless.

Great video, I really enjoyed watching it! Shocking that Hermes revealed their blueprints, I thought the artist did a fantastic job.

I think the home made version would have been better if she'd used regular leather instead of leather with an exotic print - that made it look very fake.

Where do you find the blueprints on the site? That site is so confusing to me. Does anyone have a direct link? I am very curious to see these.

What a fun video! Very interesting. I like that it shows people how you don't have to be an artisan in Paris to make one of these bags, which is one of Hermes selling points. Granted, it would be difficult to create the different variety of Hermes bags at home, and the quality of construction of the Hermes bag had to be somewhat superior to that of the homemade one; however, with practice, I don't doubt she and others could make high-quality $35 Kellys. I'm not crafty, so this is one project I won't be embarking on :)
