Bonjour Claude!

Many NY TPFers have been posting about him.
Now we all know how he looks like...

If what ABC did is legal then I guess I have a new craft project to work on...

What a great video! Thanks for posting it.

So it took the Hermes craftsman only 16 hours to make the bag by stitching it by hand. Wow. He's good.

I once ran into a guy who had a business making custom leather purses, vests, and other clothing during the Hippie age. He said the hardest part was buying the leather. He needed to sift through heavy piles of tanned hides to find hides with shading and coloring appropriate for the individual pieces of the items he was commissioned to sew. And that took a great deal of physical strength and lots of good artistic judgement.

I asked him what sort of sewing machine he used, thinking he had an industrial machine, and he said he used just a regular Singer with a leather needle.

I think that finding decent hardware would also be tough.

Anyhow, thanks for posting the video! Don't think I'm going to be sewing my own faux-Hermes bag anytime soon.

Thanks for the video – great fun! Unfortunately, even if I did get the exact pattern for a Kelly, my sewing skills are so awful no one would be fooled for one second!

I think Claude was being polite... did you see the look on his face and how he struggled for words initially when presented with the bag?

yeah, of course its impossible to master the craft of Hermes without proper training and years of practice.... but he probably thinks that her home-made efforts is worth a praise or two. at least she isn't supporting child labour in some 3rd world country!

Okay, now I want a Hermes, just because their staff are so incredibly gracious and polite. That is class!!

I noticed that too.

To the OP: thanks for posting this video. It was fun to watch. I do have mixed emotions about it though.

First of all I don't understand why they continue espousing this three year waitlist myth. Second, I don't like how they kept throwing around the $35,000 price tag. The Kelly doesn't cost that much in general.

I appreciate the fact that the staff was gracious, but they aren't stupid. They know it would not have looked good for them to recoil at the bag and what she decided to do. I wouldn't have expected them to behave any differently.

On another note, it was good to finally see what Claude looks like. Distinguished, handsome man in my opinion.

Ah Hermes. Ever Gracious! (with a capital "G").
I'd love to try it sometime, but I have a feeling that it would just make me appreciate Hermes even more!

Not as long as the bag doesn't have a Hermes logo or the seller claims it's a Hermes. That's where "designer inspired" comes in, and that's a fuzzy area. Check out Mulberry's Bayswater. If that's not a Hermes-wanna-be, I don't know what is.
