The Hermes staff showed the epitome of class and restraint.

It's obvious the Hermes Kelly blueprints are not the real blueprints but a real sweet offer for the creative types to try their hand at. Wouldn't it be a hoot if we start to see member-created Kellys popping up in the Arts & Crafts forum?

I watched this morning too. I thought it was kinda funny. Wouldn't it have been GREAT if the guy at Hermes had recoiled in absolute horror and flicked it off the counter?!!! Now, that would've been good television!!!

Now I wish I had taken Home Ec instead of the easy-A art class back in high school!

what a fun video! i was just reading about how hermes makes their bags by hand in Deluxe, it was nice to see Claude actually working on one. i'm sure the artist woman wasn't trying to replicate the bag but just trying the blueprint for fun. wish i was handy like that... i always dreamed of designing and making my own handbag.

If you are interested in making the other three bags shown at the end of the segment, the instructions are here:
http://www.simplymichele.com/howto/i...iyhandbags.pdf

The main website for the woman who made the bags is listed on ABC News as www.couragetocreate.com

ABC News also had a non-rainbow version of the blueprints on their website:
http://lesailes.hermes.com/datas/mod...lly_papier.pdf

I've been wanting to take a leathermaking class, so if I ever get around to it, I would love to try making a bag for fun!

Granted, it would be difficult to create the different variety of Hermes bags at home, and the quality of construction of the Hermes bag had to be somewhat superior to that of the homemade one; however, with practice, I don't doubt she and others could make high-quality $35 Kellys. I'm not crafty, so this is one project I won't be embarking on :)

absolutely so.

just an fyi - Kellys don't run $35K, more in the 7K range. Croc Birkins get up there in price, but not leather Hermes bags.

I think most of the 'fashionistas' were able to tell the difference because the homemade one looked very stiff whereas the authentic one had a "broken in" look to it. And, the stitching :)

Default The $35k vs $35 video, Hermes on Good Morning America
CL ladies are discussing the $600 vs $20 shoe in the CL subforum, thought this might be of interest to Hermes ladies here

http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=7490705

I've seen the Kelly paperdoll before... am actually surprised how they made a close representation of it, particularly the bag's closure...

since I'm praying for the day to peel myself away from Chanel, maybe I should try make one of these but I'll probably give up after a week, and go for the real one instead
