OMG! great video...
not to say anything bad on it... and please don't shoot me...but wouldn't this be advertising a replica of a Hermes? I mean even though the people think the homemade is better? Like I said...don't shoot me... I think this should be posted in the Hermes sub forum...I would like to know what their thoughts are. |

As long as it doesn't claim to be a Hermes, it's considered designer-inspired and not a fake or replica.

Everyone knows you pay just as much for the "brand" when it comes to H as with other brands. ANd it's not that difficult to find a highly skilled individual craftsman that will be much more accomodating in terms leather selection and colours even at a lower price point, nor is it defficult to purchase skins from the same tanneries that H uses. The saddle stitch technique isen't something that would be recommended for beginners as it's not easy to master though... ANd her bag doesen't really look like an H one bcause of leathr quality and stitching. The proportions are great though.
IMO I think this is som of the things that makes h stand out. They're very open about production and product, not trying to make them a whole lot more than what they really are. It's a simple, traditional handstitched bag in the highest quality leather they can get, not much more, and really, how much more can a bag be when you think about it? Whether one accepts the price or not is up to each one of us. They aren't ever saying this is something unique to them either. =P |

Definitely an interesting video. I didn't know it only took them 16 hours though, I though it must have taken longer than that.

Well this just reinforces my rebuttal to people that argue they are paying for the 'quality'- there is absolutely no way that an Hermes is LITERALLY one thousand times better quality than another artisan made, top grade leather bag.

^well, yeah, but a regular leather kelly does not cost $35,000, and this 'inspired by' version is not a high quality artisan made piece. I have a kelly style bag by Prada (F/W 2005) in some sort of box leather, and although the stitching is great and the inside is all leather, the handle is a bit flimsy and the outside would benefit from some sort of spa treatment, which prada doesn't offer. My bag cost a mere 825 euros, so about a fifth or a sixth of the H Kelly price. I wouldn't know if the H version is 5 times better than my Prada, but I'm sure it must be at least twice as good, and H offers refurbishment if necessary. I don't think my prada version will last 50 years, but there are H kelly bags belonging to tpf members that are over 50 years old and still look great.

Thanks for posting. Such a fun clip, that lady is quite talented. I loved the way they received it at Madison.
Edit: I'd love to make a fabric Kelly for myself this summer. |

That was fun and Hermès was so gracious about it but I still don't get why it seems like every commentator says there is a 3-year wait for a Kelly. They didn't say croc... just Kelly....
