Default hi advice for first gucci ...

Hi everyone,
I have several coach, dooney ,etc level designer bags but I have lately really been wanting to make the jump to a gucci. I realize that once I do that ,there maybe never be a chance to turn back LOL.

Thing is Gucci's are pricey ,at least for me with two small kids and a hubby who doesnt really understand the difference between high end bags or ones from target He's pretty cool if I really get my heart set on something .. anyway I digress...

I had my heart set on a belt bag because for me running after two little ones I think it might be the most practical.I simply love my coach swingpacks for that reason...but the price is high and I am wondering if I should add a little to get a real bag since this will be a pretty big purchase and maybe have to hold off on something this special for a bit after this ?

bought a belt bag off eBay,dont ask.. still peeking around ebay to see if anything looks good but kind of nervous to get duped again.. want to get one from a retail place to make sure its at least real!

Right now I am really liking the medium chain hobo ,but is there anything else that you gals might suggest? I like the signature print (not all leather bags) and I dont want something huge since I am petite ,5 ft..? would like to not get crazy with price ,although thats a relative term ..I guess 800-900 being the top ,seriously, would love to get a deal if anyone knows of a sale ,discount place or legit eBay seller .. etc..

Any suggestions from Gucci lovers ??..belt bag or medium chain hobo or .....?????

Thanks for letting me ramble,I am new to the board and anxious to meet everyone..

You're right, a belt bag would be very practical ... However, a chain hobo is super classy! I'm also petite like you and the medium chain hobo is just perfect. Keep us updated on what you decide!

Welcome! I agree that the chain hobo is a great bag to start with.

Do you have any preferences on the way you like to carry your bag?

The Joy Bostons are a good choice as they are entry level bags, costing upwards of $595.

Also, the Abbey line is a good choice for a first Gucci, especially the Abbey shoulder, which costs $725.

Also, check out the D-gold totes and shoulder bags, which retail for 800 - 900 ish.

Other bags like the Princy tote and the Jolicoeur are also worth checking out. And of course, you cannot go wrong with the Chain hobo.

Let us know which bag you choose!

The Gucci outlets ship and that would be a good place to find a bag for less money and you will be sure its real. I would check the thread out at the top of this subforum. The Gucci deals thread. The girls will post what is new at the outlets and sometimes pics. The leather chain hobo was at the outlets. It may still be there. I also know a few girls just bought a britt fabric hobo type bag and it was not expensive and not very big.

Hi,Thanks for the responses..wow italianfashion mentioned the britt hobo, have to check pics out ....wondering IF I go for the chain medium, should I get the off white or brown trim? brown would stay cleaner of course and I guess is good for any season? the off white is very appealing though.. does it seem like you could wear the white for all seasons? as I said if I splurge on my first gucci I want to be able to get a lot of use out of it...the white is prettier somehow ,the brown safer I guess.. any thoughts? what does everyone have..? and is that britt italianfashion mentioned only going to be in outlets? is it older? thanks!!!

I'd say to get the medium chain hobo also, it would be a great first bag, a classic and will last a lifetime. I'm also petite, only 5'1" and I have it, in leather though, and I love it, and I'm even thinking of getting in monogram cause I love the style so much. In my opinion the white is prettier and I think can be worn year round, although I'm also a big fan of the brown too, haha guess that wasn't much help, but if you think the white is prettier I'd go for that. But the chain hobo is available at gucci stores also and gucci.com, and you can probably find it at Nieman Marcus or Saks.

Ok ladies, now I am completely confused I just checked out gucci .com ,maybe I didn't notice before but it looks like there are one or two other choices that look good for my first Gucci.. there is even a cute little simple hobo with the GG on it that is only 550$ ( the britt hobo?) . Funny how prices become relative when looking at these bags !When looking at 900$ bags a 550 $ starts to look cheap ..anyway, I might try to call around and see who has a few of the choices so I can see everthing in person. Would love to go without the kiddies if I can get a time when my daughter is in preschool and my DH can watch my boy ... they get antsy and I really dont want to make my first gucci purchase under pressure... wish someone from the board lived local that would lend a hand ,help me pic, at a store? anyone live in the Los Angeles area ? ...anyway,gotta get my butt over to a store to check out a few choices... would LOVE to be able to swing the belt bag AND a nice purse but I might need to see what I end up interested in first.

Hi everyone, just wanted to update this thread.. thanks for all your help. I went and checked out some bags...of course I am still confused about which nice bag to get but I did go ahead and get the belt bag since it will be useful for me in my current situation...soooo..I have officially dived into the Gucci /high end bag obsession and theres no turning back now ... have to admit ,I wore the belt bag and it is very practical but feeling a little bit of remorse that I didn't get a fabulous bag at the same time or instead...sooo I am doing a little more research and going back to see the bags again... I really feel like I want to get a nice "me" bag as well as the belt bag ..as the belt bag is more of a "mommy's useful bag" KWIM? still considering the chain hobo ... the sales girls were pushing me towards a bag with brown leather as opposed to the white after seeing the two kiddies :) ...I'll keep you posted thanks for all your help!!!
