I have been eyeing this bag on the Gucci website for quite a while and finally decided to purchase it. I initially went to the site to order a 'summer' bag and was ready to buy the white tote with bamboo handles (also pictured), but it seemed kind of plain compared to this bag. The white bag also has three interior comparments, and I prefer the open interior of the tassled tote. Also a plus that the tassles are removable, if I want to carry it without (with certain outfits), and the fact it comes the Gucci script mirror in leather case was a small extra that I liked. It won't arrive for another week or so, and I was wondering if anyone here has the bag and if so, how they like it? Like most bag lovers I know, I already have a good number of black handbags in my collection which is why I had set out for a white bag but something about this one keeps drawing me to it. I called Gucci way back when this was first released and inquired if it was available in white and I was told it was only being offered in black and there were no plans for it to be made in white I do carry black bags in all seasons and I think the bamboo handles give this a bit of a summer look but also think the bag could be used year round. Thoughts???

Both are classics, the Diana goes back to the mid-1990s and the Bamboo handle tote to the 1950s.

If the colour is important I would go for the Diana

The Diana could be seen as sleeker and more sophisticated but the black tote has so much character, I would never get suck of that bag. I think the black BTHT would steel my heart.

BTW, the Bamboo top handle tote also came in original fabric with brown or burgundy leather but IMO the black is much nicer. I think you might be able to fold the corners in too, to make a slightly softer shape (not 100% sure if it was this bag)

Thanks for your thoughts papertiger.... I did order the black, but since it's not readily available I could swicth the order to the white if I change my mind in the next few days. I also ordered a few scarves to tie on the bag to give it a pop of color (white and ivory scarves with purple designs) and I know they would really look great on against the white, so I keep going back and forth on which one to get/keep...................oh how I wish I had unlimited $$ at times like this!

The bamboo scarf will work so well with any of the bamboo handled bags (mmm should I be buying one too?)

If you were wearing a completely neutral coloured and plain outfit I think you could get away with tying the G scarf to the bag and wearing the Bamboo on yourself so that it just showed (eg inside the neckline of a plain white shirt). Aside from anything I think the bamboo one would also make a great top (I just bought the Tigre scarf top ).

This will be one reveal I really can't wait for

I was thinking the same, as to using the bamboo scarf as a top. I just love that design. It was sold out on the website so I had to call around to a few boutiques, but managed to find one and have it sent. I will definitely post pics when the scarves and bag arrive :)

The expected ship date for the tote is 5/17-5/31 so I am going to try to be patient and wait instead of changing the order for the white bag. In the past my Gucci orders have come in early, so hoping that will be the case this time. I can't wait to see the bag in person!

Sooooooooooooooo I had thought I had made up my mind to get the black tote, but it was backordered a week or two and I had time to think some more and look over what I currently have in my collection. I also re-read the post by papertiger, and reconsidered the white Diana tote. I currently have a black Chanel cerf, large black Tom Ford satchel, black Lady Dior and black birkin, all of which I've carried year round. I decided to cancel the order for the black tote and take a chance on the white Diana. It arrived today and I'm thrilled with it! I stopped home during work, so I only had time to take a few quick pics, but I switched my stuff over and am carrying the bag, and it is perfect. I was worried it might be too big, almost travel tote size, but it's not. I prefer larger day bags and this works for me. I was also concerned about the interior being split into three sections but it's still very roomy. The one detail that had me on the fence with the black tote, was I thought it might be too 'busy', with the bamboo handles, the tassles and the bamboo turn lock on the front pocket. I love adding scarves to a bag in the summer to add a pop of color or change up the look, and with the black bag it would have been just too much going on at once to add a scarf. The Diana bag is very low key, discreet elegance style, IMO.

'She' really is a beauty and I can see how gorgeous that leather is from here, congratulations she looks as elegant and timeless on you as her name-sake, Princess Diana. Perfect!

It just dawned on me that I have a small 'Princess Di' collection going.....my first designer bag was the Tods original D-bag in the classic vachetta , that I bought after seeing pics of princess Diana carrying it (and I still use it from time to time), I have the Lady Dior in black and now this bag :)
Papertiger, I'm curious.... any other bags named after Diana because she favored them?

That must make us some kind of twins or at least bag siblings because I have my mother's small Tod's Diana bag in Camel :-) I do wish she had bought it a bit bigger, the size of the real Diana's would have been so perfect but the small works very well as an occasion bag. Now I'm wondering where I put it Isn't the Tod's a great bag too, another classic.

Dior were more calculated, as the Lady D bag as Diana was presented with it. The Gucci and the Tod's were her own choices and were only called Diana and D subsequently after she became associated by her carrying them.

I don't know of any others but if I hear of any I shall let you know.

The Tods D-bag is an awesome bag and I like the camel vachetta color the best. I understand the company no longer makes the original style (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and that is disappointing because though the restyled version is nice, the original truly is classic.
I've carried the Gucci Diana tote back to work and to a few shops after and I really love it. The more I look at it the more happy I am with my choice. I found the middle compartment nice for placing my full size Chanel wallet in (carried on it's side) as it keeps it separate from anything else that could scratch it, and it can be secured with the zip closure.
