Is anyone familiar with the Gucci beige and cream Amalfi hobo? I just bought one on eBay and I have a couple authenticity questions. Do the Amalfis all have the gold Gucci script on the strap?

Does anyone know what to look for in order to authenticate a vintage Gucci? My aunt just gave me one, and I was wondering if it was real or not (I'd ask her, but it was a gift). Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

This has to be the best bit of advise on here, Ilson is very right.. As a former Gucci Exec, I can tell you that it differs from country to country and factory to factory. No person in retail is Authorised to verify the authenticity of a particular item... verifications can only be done by Gucci Head Office and if you send it off to the Head office, they have the right to confiscate and destroy the item without compensation as the Rights Owner; if it is a Fake. If you happen to purchase a fake and it looks good... the only one who truely knows is you, I wouldn't recommend buying fakes, but these days, a very good copy can fool a Real expert.

No one can Authenticate ANY item by photo evidence alone. You need to physically view, touch & feel the item. Anyone one who pretends to be able to.. is just guessing, unless of course it is an obvious fake.

I know without a doubt there a few women on these boards talk S**T. As they have claimed items were "off" from authorised Gucci distributors, who only use eBay as a Market testing tool. The only fakes in my opinion, apart from the very obvious fake bags shown in some pictures, are these women who claim to know all and enjoy destroying peoples hopes.

I cannot understand why people from this forum and other forums ask for the advise from uneducated nobodys who have only purchsed a handful of items (if they are lucky)... and are still in Diapers!

I'm not saying you know nothing, as lame as you say I am, and that you are not an "Ex Gucci Rep" as you claim you are... but going by what you just said, why should we listen to you? How do we know that you know quote S**T unquote?

X GUCCI EXEC: There is no reason to insult people on this forum. The people here are always helpful and try their best to authenticate. However, I agree that sometimes mistakes are made and authentic bags are deemed "off".

^Exactly I totally agree. And all of those who help out admit that mistakes happen. There is NO denying that. In the case where a mistake is made, just point it out, but don't be rude. No one is qualified here and none of us claim to be. We're just people trying to help other people, and if someone makes a mistake, I don't think the person ought to be crucified for it.

how does this look?

Need bigger picture of the serial number, it looks kind of off. Also, get a picture of the Gucci logo on the other side too, it looks kind of being "stamped on", not embossed.

FYI - This is my bag purchased from GUCCI, I will post a better picture of the tag, but I think you should be a little more careful before assuming something is fake. Thanks
I remember you Zippie. Your picture on the listing wasn't clear, but no one ever comment that it was fake. Be fair to us.

I'm really surprise that someone who claimed to be an ex-exec would talk like this. Wouldn't it be better if people get REAL ones and be SURE before buying or bidding?

If you're not SURE, why risk it on eBay? Forgive me, but YOU talked like someone who has conflict of interest by the helps from kind people on this forum i.e. help others stay away from fake, kwim?

Using eBay as a Market testing tool? Why does Gucci need to do it?

I and am graceful to everyone who helps others with authentication in every sub-forums.
Don't be discourage by his/her comment. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Sucre, Gucci would NEVER use eBay for anything... Please do not misquote me.

What I said is there are distributors that buy from Gucci, that use eBay in that way. Gucci do not promote this act, but after the goods are sold to the distributor, Gucci have no say to how they are sold.

Personally, I don't buy of eBay. I buy all my bags from the Designers' Boutique. So no conflict of interest.

Sorry for the misquote bit.

And, I think you missed my point in the conflict of interest, but that's okay.

My tip for authenticity(to stay in the topic), see/touch the real bag/wallet first if you can before you buy it from something off eBay or some online store.

I have one Gucci which my friend asked me what I think about the same bag on eBay. I compared and told her, I can't say for sure but the shape of button is not the same (round vs square), the zipper pull are not the same etc. Please request heatstamp pictures. Should at least know where to look. etc.

^ You already posted this previously in the correct thread. This thread is for sharing authenticity tips not for asking authenticity questions.
