Well, I just purchased a Gucci Boston bag from Neiman Marcus a little over a week ago and the controlatto card reads "1234567890" So, I would assume they are all like that

I don't understand, why put yourself through the agony of finding out if the tag is right if the zipper is in the right place etc.You want a real bag walk into gucci and buy one. Spending all this money on these bags you deserve to treat yourself to the whole experience.Walking into the store getting greeted and walking away with a great purchase.

I think it's the thrill of getting a deal that causes us to get taken in by ebay sellers that sells fakes. I've learned my lesson the hard way. My hubby spent over 800. trying to get me designer bags a few years ago off ebay. Never again. Unless I get some favorable insight from the knowledgeable pfers, I'm not buying.

A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing, eh? If you think about it, Gucci is made in Italy, right? And can be purchased in the U.S., Hong Kong, Dubai, even Papeete, Tahiti. How do you think those bags get to those stores in pristine condition? Padding, wraps, plactic covers, etc. Of course, the owner of an exclusive and expensive boutique isn't going to put the bag on display in that condition; off come the wraps, plastic, foam or whatever, and then the bag goes on display. But before then --- wraps, plastic, foam, whatever it takes to get that beauty from Italy to Papeete.

I recently bought a Gucci at a Gucci outlet. The bag on display had marks (from rough handling over Christmas, I guess) and I asked if they had another. The SA went into the back and brought out a sealed cardboard box, which had a small Gucci sticker, with style number, etc. Inside, packed in shipping paper, was the bag-----------coomplete with wrapped handles, plastic covering the metal parts, etc. Inside was some more paper and the sleeper bag. The care card and controllota card were in the pocket.

The SA took it out of the box, removed the wraps and plastic, placed it in its sleeper bag, tied the bag, then into a Gucci shopping bag, and off I went with my new Gucci.

It is always easier to pronounce everything shown on this forum a fake than it is to really know. Lots of thiings are true and authentic, but not widely known. Not Gucci I know but. . . .did you know that Louis Vuitton has a factory in San Dimas, California? (East of Los Angeles.) It's true ---but I will bet half the LV forum regulars would deny it =)

Gucci comes with a controllato card that has the numbers 1234567890 on it. The rectagular card is black and white, and sometimes the black is more gray than black. The card is totally useless and I can't fathom why Gucci bothers. It is very easy to buy an authentic Gucci (at their own boutique, outlet, Saks, Neimans, etc.) without this little card; they can get lost, but that doesn't make it a fake Gucci. What is fake are those plastic credit-card type things. Chanel uses something like those but not Gucci. I think the Chinese couldn't believe a brand as fancy as Gucci would use something as cheap as a controllato card so they decided to "dress it up" =)

It's also in teresting that most sellers of fakes on eBay don't know this, so they proudly display that fake credit-card thing in their photos. Isn't it interesting that eBay, with their attack on U.S. sellers of authentic merchandise, doesn't seem to have figured this out yet? Amazing.

I've been a "small time" collector of Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Prada for years but my collection is quite small given my financial constraints. A few weeks ago I decided (against my better judgement and loyalty to authentic purses)to purchase a black canvas Gucci Belt Bag from a seller on ebay. Before making the purchase, I thoroughly read the guarantee of authenticity (which gave me a false sense of hope that this item would be authentic) as well as the return policy.

I received the bag yesterday and upon opening it I was able to immediately recognize it as a fake (although a pretty good one). I pulled up the same item on Gucci's website and visually dissected every detail I could. Although the bag in my hand looked just like the pic on Gucci's website, I could tell that something wasn't right. One thing that looked ever suspicious to me was that the zipper on the back of the bag had Gucci stamped into it. I know some authentic Gucci bags do have this type of zipper but it did not sit well with me. I immediately sent an email to the ebay seller notifying her that I would be sending the bag back, she has agreed to accept the bag and refund my money.

Today I went to the Gucci boutique in Nordstrom and I found the same exact bag as my little fake one. I purchased the bag and I'm going to take it home and compare it to my fake. I can tell you this right now. My fake came with a the controlatto card that reads "1234567890", my new authentic bag also came with a the controlatto card reads "1234567890". So what is the purpose of the controlatto card anyway? Also, what is the purpose of putting serial numbers on your products if you will not authenticate the products? What are the serial numbers and the controlatto cards for?

first post, glad i found this site. some people might know this already but if you look closely at the GG on Gucci products on Ebay and other sites, sometimes you can tell it's FAKE if the top curve of the G has a slight bump like this: G or G The real one should be a smoother curve, like this G. When in doubt, check the gucci website for close ups.

for vintage, make sure you ask the person first if you would be able to get a full refund including shipping and ebay fees. if it's real, they would have no problem. and save your emails for proof.

I think the "controllato card" is a Gucci-insider joke. I picture the execs sitting around the conference table about 4:30 most Friday afternoons having a drink (or two) and laughing about "all the fuss that cheap cardboard card causes!!!!" Must be a hoot ----------- because it serves no other purpose that I have ever heard of. And by the way . . . . often times the card goes missing (yes, even at a Gucci boutique) and you walk out without THE CONTROLLATO CARD!!!! Oh my! =)

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any authenticity tips for vintage Gucci? Real vs. Fake canvas, zipper pulls, tags, serial no.'s, dust bags, ect.
I'm most interested in Gucci Accessory Collection.
Thanks

I am having a real hard time with this bag because of the overlapping Gs. They seem like they are lined up nice and straight both horizontally and vertically. Does anyone have a link to a known authentic site where I can try and compare them (bag borrow or steal has it, but not sure if they are real or fake)
