Vintage patent is very susceptible to becoming sticky/cracking/going grey and matt. I wouldn't store your bag as that's where most of the damage is done as it needs air. Just take it out lots and use it - it will last better that way. You shouldn't have problems with rain, just use a soft cloth to wipe off. A faintly damp cloth is all you need too just to clean the bag - then dry off. Other polishes/cleaners can have solvents in them which will damage the patent.

I was recommended a no-wax leather conditioner such as Cadillac for my bag. It conditions and protects the leather and I have had no problems. Congratulations!!
