My sukey came today and it had the swatch in the zip pocket with all of the cards. I think I will stop by Gucci at Nordstrom today and see what they say about Scotchquard. I know I have used it on expensive furniture upholstery and I love how it helps the fabric stand up.

Hello,
one of the SAs at the Gucci store told me that it's to "clean" or wipe the hardware on your bags so if you have a bag that has metallic on it or a big "GG" logo hardware piece (like on the Sukey or the D-Ring hobo), you can clean it with the fabric. I'm not sure I'm entirely convinced!

Is it just me or does that seem strange? I don't think I am convinced either.

Sorry to bump such an old thread gal's. I'm considering my 1st "high end" designer bag, and have landed smack dab in between an LV Damier Speedy 30 and the gucci mono Sukey with brown leather trim. I came looking for info about using Scotchguard on the fabric. I wanted to weigh in about something an SA (at Coach) just shared with me last week. I don't know exactly how similiar the Coach and Gucci jaquard are, but if they are at all similiar this could be helpfull for many. The SA who told me this info has worked for Coach for nearly 20 years.

I have almost always used Scotchguard on my signature Coach bags, but she advised me that there is a better option. She mentioned buying INDUSTRIAL or COMMERCIAL GRADE Scotchguard for my Coach fabric bags (of which I have very few.) She mentioned that she started doing this with her daughters signature bags and it worked SO WELL that she started doing it to all of hers aswell. I guess the COMMERCIAL GRADE Scotchguard is more expensive (about $15-17 bucks per can) and after she sprayed her last bag and let it dry she literally RAN IT UNDER A RUNNING KITCHEN FAUCET and said the water ran right off the bag!!! Ofcourse this was going thru my head when I'm weighing back and forth between an easy to care for LV coated canvas or an easily stained jaquard!!!

I have yet to use the commercial grade, and don't know if I'll even have a signature bag to try it on until I decide on this Gucci Sukey as I mostly buy Coach leather. This SA told me that she bought the commercial grade at Hancock fabrics!!!

Just thought I'd weigh in since I was just told this last week, and was curious about being able to Scotchguard the Gucci Sukey!!!

^Thanks for the info! I have never bothered scotchguarding my sukey boston but maybe I should start...I don't have any issues with my sukey being easily stained and I'm not necessarily the most careful person with my bags but it's great information. I used to own a Coach fabric bag and it was amazingly durable and looked new after several years of constant use, however I find the Gucci canvas has a tighter weave than Coach so it may be even more durable.

I can't help you make a decision between the Speedy or the Sukey - both are such different bags. The Sukey costs more for uncoated canvas but I think the handle is long enough to be used a shoulder bag. The speedy would be easier to take care of. I don't know when LV will have a price increase but the Sukey is more expensive now than when it debuted. Congrats on whatever you decide down the road!!

I believe that the swatch is included for testing the compatibility of cleaning solutions before you actually commit to using them on the bag itself. You know, to test for bleeding fabric/leather and such. Sometimes furniture will come with swatches to.

I was told the swatches are used for Customs since they are imported from Italy. My Balenciagas come with the little swatch of leather, too.

My Jockey hobo came with a little leather swatch but not my new Charlotte. Now I'm curious as to what the swatch is for. We must get to the bottom of this.
