She's one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, and a role model to millions of women who admire her success, her philanthropic work and her womanly curves.
But Christina Aguilera's choice of outfit didn't do her figure any favours at the 2012 NCLR ALMA Awards tonight, where she stepped out in a figure-hugging black lace number.
The 31-year-old singer-songwriter, who is currently a judge on The Voice, also chose the awards night to debut a new look in the hair department - a two-toned pink-and-purple pony tail.
But it was her dress which commanded the most attention - and not all of it positive.
The floor-length Michael Kors gown, with cut-out lace sections on the back, ribs and arms, clung to the entertainer's body in all the wrong places.
A dramatic slit up one side of the dress, which ended far above her knee, showed off Christina's terrific legs.
But the hit singer went too heavy on the bling in the jewellery, purse and shoe department, which had the effect of competing with her dress rather than complimenting it.
Christina later stepped onstage to accept a trophy after being honored at the awards night, which highlighted the best American Latino contributions to music, film and television.
Her appearance at the awards night comes on the eve of her new single being released on iTunes.
On the cover art for the new single, titled 'Your Body', the platinum blonde artist appears almost naked, covered only in a thin gauzy fabric which affords her a modicum of modesty in the required places.
In a recent interview with Lucky magazine, the singer says shes totally unrepentant about the way her clothes advertise her assets.
'Actually, the challenge Ive always had is being too thin, so I love that now I have a booty, and obviously I love showing my cleavage,' Christina told the magazine.
'Hey, if you can work it and you can own it, that confidence is going to shine through.'
She told the magazine: 'When youre young, its so easy to get bull*dozed.'
She was surrounded by people trying to control what she said, what she sang and what she wore.
'There were these two ladies who worked at the record label who always wanted to come to fittings and dress me up like a Barbie doll. It was disgusting.'
