Generally, I first look/browse and whatever catches my eye, I then take a closer look. Finally, I look at the price which may determine if I'm going to buy it or not.
It's now on sale from $99 to $59 .
That's why a lot of stores will train the staff to flip the tags over/tuck the tags in. Not just because dangling tags tend to look tacky, but because if you see that dress is $90, you may not even walk over to it. However, if you walk over to said dress, see the detail, touch the fabric, then glance at the price...if you really love the item, your mind will start justifying the price somehow.
I agree with most of the ladies here.

My expectations for the price obviously differs for what I'm shopping for. Eg. if I just need casual clothing, my price limit is less than 50$. I rarely buy any everyday casual clothing more than this amount because it's just not worth it.
However, if I'm specifically looking for a nice designer piece, my range for the acceptable price will go accordingly to the brand, style, and material... So this could vary from several hundred to the thousands.
My mother is the complete opposite though... She goes straight for the bargain rack or whatever sign says the greatest % off on sale, and then she picks her clothes from this pile. She may not really love the style of clothing, but she will buy it as long as it's cheap lol (and never wear it). I should say that I don't think my mother has the greatest sense of fashion...

"Like" used to be good enough for me, but now I have to all-out LOVE it! The hardest part is falling in love with something, then having that internal battle where you have to dish out tough love and say NO to yourself because it's too expensive, or too impractical!
Well the said top is now $11.99
