Default Saks Returns Issues
I wanted to know if anyone has ever had this problem. I just returned a coat to Saks...They looked it over right in front of me and processed the return.

15 minutes later I get a call saying that another manager looked it over and thinks it's been worn and they wanted me to go pick up.

My cc company said I have to check back in a week and if the credit isn't processed they will dispute it. Can Saks really refuse to process my return credit? If they accepted the coat they obviously thought it was returned in resaleable condition otherwise they wouldn't have taken it right?

Just curious. Why do you think they thought it looked worn?

They didn't give me a reason...I told the associate when I returned it that I fit it on. So I'm assuming that's what they meant??

Would call and speak to the SA or manager to find out what this is all about?

OP, if they accepted the return and processed it through their system, I would think it was a done deal. The SA had every opportunity to say no at the time you presented the return.

I just returned a pair of Tory Burch pants and the SA gave me a hard time. She took over five minutes checking every area of the pants. She didn't ask me if they had been worn but by the way she was inspecting them, it was obvious she was looking for something. I had the tag and receipt and had only purchased them last week. She processed the return but had a major attitude. So much that I walked out not purchasing what I intended to purchase that day. Definitely not Nordstrom customer service.

Yeah, that's how that SA was too. She was looking at the collar, smelling it. It obviously passed her smell test otherwise she wouldn't have done it.

For that kind of treatment I'd rather give my money to Nordstrom's or Bloomies...The jacket was delivered 3 days ago. It had tags, everything still on it.

don't go pick it up. if they took it back, it is now theres. tell them they accepted your unused return that you merely tried on, and that if it was an issue, then they shouldn't have accepted it for return like they did.

if they have the coat, they can't just bill you for it. so i'd just let it go. if anything, call and ask for the store manager and let them know what is going on.

After last week's long, heatedly-debated thread here about Saks and their Draconian return policies, now comes this example. It surely looks like Saks is tightening their belt and questioning returns that, a short time ago, they would have not questioned.
Sorry this happened to you, OP. I would wait and see what happens. Maybe you should try to speak to a higher up. But if they can reverse the refund they gave you, I hope you can fall back on your credit card.
I have bought things from Saks that looked a bit shopworn (like they were tried on multiple times or perhaps even worn and returned.) When I asked for a price break for their worn-ness, the SA practically laughed in my face. Now they are doing the reverse?

They cannot accept the return and then call you later and say that they cannot accept it.

First of all, I buy things online from Saks all the time and I'll be the first to tell you that sometimes I will try something on, wear it for a day and then realize I really dont like it and return it through the mail with the tags not attached but in the box and the clothing folded in the box also with the return slip. I have done this at least five times and have not had any problems returning through the mail and the clothes defiantly looked worn. They do charge 10.00 to return through the mail which is the only problem.

So maybe it is better to make Saks returns through the mail. And I have to agree with everyone else here: Nordstrom has a very good return policy and they are very polite about it.

Sorry, I have a problem with you returning something that you've worn for a day. I wouldn't want to buy something that someone else has already worn on their body! It's really dishonest. JMO...

Sorry, I'd rather be dishonest and end up with clothes that I really like than have second thoughts about something I paid a lot of money for and decide to keep it just to be honest. I only do it if I think I like it, wear it, and decide I'd rather get the money back and buy something better.

Please dont tell me this hasnt happened to anyone? It happens to me all the time. I find a deal online or something but you cant try it on when you buy it online, so I get it in the mail, look at and it looks good, try it on and Im still liking it but then after I wear it I start to not like it as much. And considering I am a student and if I spend 300+ on a shirt or something, or in some cases 1000+ I need to really love it. So I will return it and get my money back. Sorry if its dishonest but thats just the way it is.

^ I don't think she's being dishonest. If she put the tags on the actual garment and tried to pass it off like she hadn't worn the item, it might be a different story. The people who do the return obviously accepted the return without the tags attached. So I don't really see the dishonesty. People return used beauty items to sephora, and ulta all the time. They don't resell them. Some stores even have return policies where used clothing can be returned. So I think if you wear something for one day and are really a having qualms about it - your entitled to return it, especially if the original retailer takes it back.

And to be honest, a lot of stuff you buy at stores has been tried on by different people, not just one. Many people will also try an item on for hours at home making up their mind as well. So one day of wearing it is not a big deal in my mind. Wearing and using something for months, weeks, etc. that I don't agree with so much.

I still think it's wrong no matter how you justify it. If you can't afford it- don't buy it. The fact that your a college student has nothing to do with it being a reason to return a worn item. If it were defective I could understand your thinking. Many stores will not take returns on evening gowns etc. anymore for just this reason. People wear them for an event and try to return them. They just keep the tags inside the dress and return it. How would you feel buying clothing that someone else wore for a day and paying full price for it? Trying it on in the dressing room is one thing, but actually wearing it and then deciding you don't like it? I don't think that there are many retailers out there that would return it knowingly. You could never do it with shoes...and personally I don't believe that you can justify it. Am I the only one that feels this way?
Maybe I'm just a different generation...but I find it dishonest.

To the OP, I suggest you contact the manager and explain to him/her that since they already accepted the return from the outset that it's no longer your problem. Hopefully they will reverse the charge.

I do see where you're coming from. Personally, if I'm not 100% sure I'm going to like an item, I just don't purchase it and instead, give myself time to think about it before I make up my mind. I just don't like the hassle of returning something unless the item was defective. This is one of the reasons why I want to shop in store as opposed to online.

I assume you'd have paperwork saying that you'd processed the return?

That's all you need for it to be legal, I'd warrant - and for them to charge it back onto your card without your permission is not.

I think you're in the clear here regardless, OP; I just hope the issue doesn't escalate out of hand!
