I think it varies. Nordstrom has started to become more stringent on its return practices. Unfortunately (and despicably), ppl take advantage of Nordstrom's good graces when it comes to its return policy. This affects Nordstrom's bottom line.

Personally, if I was a business owner, and ppl just go hog wild on my lenient return policy, then I wind up with a lot of loss (and not enough profit). It's one thing to offer exceptional customer service, but it's quite another to basically be stomped on, you know what I mean? (Oh, and this by no means is directed at your return attempt. I have also been in the situation where I had a defective product and needed to do a rtn, but I paid w/cash).

^^^^ yeah I know what you mean!! Some people are just trying to get cash etc. I learned my lesson and now pay with my debit or credit card so I have proof.

Thanks girl! I wanted to make sure you knew I wasn't singling you out (or accusing you of a sketchy return). Oh, and I'm right there w/you; I'm all about using my cc now.

So, I'm looking at a Choo-bag on Ebay where the seller stated the following when asked when/where bag was bought:

The bag was brought back to Nordstrom a few days ago we have a no questions asked policy as long as the customer has their reciept and it is the original bag and all serial #'s confirm it we will do a refund or exchange, sometimes people unfortunatly used the bags a handful of times and bring them back so we sell them at a discount and mark the pocket so when its purchased it cannot be returned again. So if you dont mind this bag is a great deal.

The link to the bag is here, it is CLEARLY well used.....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...:X:RTQ:US:1123

Is that even a possibility? Where do these returned bags go - anyone with retail experience know?

Please advise.....

TIA, ladies!!!!

I don't know where they go but I did read the book Retail Hell by Freeman Hall and I couldn't believe the returns Nordstrom would allow! They would take anything, even bags that were suspected as stolen with faked receipts and would let them return. No matter how used up and dirty the bag was they would still allow return. What they did with these I don't think he mentions in the book. Wonder if they let the sales associates have them sometimes since they obviously can't resell?

I do know that Nordstroms has a GREAT return policy and will except returns even if it's been sightly used. I'm not sure if they actually re-sell it though.

This needs to be posted in the shopping forum where it will get more exposure.

The Rack (Nordstrom Rack) writes numbers in the pocket (SKU or price). They do that not only to prevent returns but probably because people take the tags off in the store.

Nordstrom has a discount chain (like Saks Off Fifth or Nieman Marcus Last Call) called Nordstrom Rack.

In Phoenix, Arizona, it also has a final clearance store even more discounted than the Rack where items that can't be sold anywhere else are sold. It is called Nordstrom Last Chance. I notice that many eBay sellers with heavily discounted Nordstrom items are from AZ.

I have no idea if that is their policy (I wish I could be more helpful) but how embarrassing for Nordstrom if it is. I can't believe they would allow a bag that has been that used to be resold in their store. Common sense tells me the sellers statement is not 100% accurate.

I do not have direct knowledge with Nordstrom but I do know a lot about Bloomingdales. I have a friend who works for the corporate offices. At Bloomingdales and Macy's ( and any other Federated Dept. stores ) they take returns even if they are used shoes or handbags. The items are then sent back to a regional facility where they then group the items into lots. Federated has a list of approved clients who then can buy customer returns, new items that did not sell, and mail order items. Nordstrom sends their unused items to Nordstrom rack and does not liquidate their stuff at a facility. I believe that Nordstrom has a store by store decision with their used items. If the item is well used I would think either 1) it is an employee selling it themselves 2) it is a friend of the employee or 3) it is the person who liquidates for Nordstrom ( though with Federated clients can not disclose where they got the item from when they resell it )
