For the month of November, we are giving away a handbag that was produced for a great cause. In October we featured the Zac Posen + DHL Limited Edition "Tote for Teachers" and now we will be giving one away!
![]() Behind the impeccably skilled designer, Zac Posen, is a man with a charitable heart for a cause that reaches out to us all. Zac Posen has partnered with DHL to create the Zac Posen + DHL "Tote For Teachers" with 100% of the proceeds benefiting TeachersCount. TeachersCount is a non-profit organization that prides itself in furthering teacher appreciation. DHL underwrote the entire production of the bag and is providing free shipping within the US so that 100% of the proceeds will go directly to TeachersCount. Rules To enter: Simply enter to win this handbag for a fabulous cause on THIS THREAD in the Purse Forum. You must give the name of your most influential teacher and tell why this teacher had a great impact on you. You only need to write one line, but are welcome to write more. Only one entry per member. We will end the contest at midnight on the 30th of November. The winner will be chosen randomly out of the group that enters. Remember, without teachers we would all not be who we are today, for it is the teachers that have nurtured our minds and expanded our thoughts. Good luck! |

Mrs.Gumm my 5th grade teacher....many many many(you get the idea, I am old) years ago. I was a chubby 10 year old, felt somewhat out of place at that awkward age, but Mrs. Gumm always made me feel terrific, she always complimented me, whether it be on a new dress or my "pretty blues eyes". She was very supportive and encouraging of my academic abilities ...she made me feel confident and comfortable of who I was.
She even came to my birthday luncheon my mother gave for me, something she had never done for any other student. Bless you Mrs.Gumm you helped make me the independent, successful (slim too) woman I became. |

I actually have 2, Miss Fowler and Mr Dickinson (strange names, I know). Miss Fowler was my year 4 teacher and I remember her always being fun and having lots of interesting books. I had just moved there and was very lonely (because I'm a very quiet, shy person normally). She made me feel welcome and would let me stay in the class during lunchtimes to read if I needed the time and company. Sadly, she left at the end of the year and I remember hugging her and bawling.
Mr Dickinson (aka Mr D) was my teacher for both Year 6 & 7. He was a very patient guy and came up with some of the strangest topics to teach us. One time in Year 7, we ended up learning about South America (I'm in Australia btw) and focused most of the term on Pirahnas...Also, he never made a fuss when the kids (meaning us, his class) teased him about driving 'an old bomb' (the tail pipe was being held up by a wire coat hanger...) Anyway, I had lots of great memories with them and now, well, I'm a teacher myself I try to make things fun (I mainly teach maths ) for the kids like my favorite teachers did for me. |

Mr. McKenzie was my 5th grade teacher. I was bored out of my mind in 5th grade and acting out (today I would have likely received a diagnosis of ADHD). Mr. McKenzie realized I was just bored and created a lesson plan just for me that was separate from all the other students. In that one year I finished 5th, 6th, and started 7th grade. It was above and beyond what he ever needed to do...and he did it in way that the other kids wouldn't be able to tease me, etc.! What a fabulous man!

Lynda Hunter, my English teacher in Jr High. She was always there for me; very supportive and understanding and kind, and she always made me feel great about myself.

Mr. Dale Norris, my band teacher in middle school. He could play every instrument from the flute to the bassoon and the drums to a violin. No matter how bad a student was, he would stop practice, walk over and sit next to them and show them how to navigate whatever passage they were having problems with.
Sometimes it took 30 seconds, sometimes an hour, but we all learned from it. He never made anyone feel stupid or incompetent, and he never chided or teased anyone in class like so many other of my teachers would. There was this really nerdy kid who played the bassoon. No one would hang out with him because he was nerdy and actually a little creepy. Well, he could really wail on that bassoon. And he had perfect pitch. Mr. Norris made sure we all realized that and how gifted he was, and once we understood this and he felt special, which he really was, we all got along. So, in his quiet, nurturing way, Mr. Norris taught us respect, honor and to value those around us, no matter how different they might be..."because everyone is gifted! you just have to search a little harder with some people!" he used to say. He passed last year of lung cancer. Rest in Peace. ![]() ![]() |

My favorite teacher ever was Professor Adams (in college). He was the perfect blend of teacher, one who was respected by both students and faculty, and who was my friend while also pushing me to do my best. He passed in 2002, but he will always be in my heart and I will always consider him my role model in all aspects of life.

My most influential teacher was Mr. Pritchett form 7th grade. I think he was the only one who realized that I was actually different than what I made others think. I just started learning English at that time and he helped me a lot with that!

The teacher that has had the greatest impact on me is my mother.
She's a remarkable teacher of special needs children and she has taught me more about compassion and love than anyone else in the world.

Barry Cardonick, my 5th grade teacher. He set a really high bar that allowed me to begin to reach my potential as a writer. He was also the first person with whom I could share my interest in history and get real and thoughtful comments in return.

I would have to say it was 8th grade English teacher, Miss Lippman. she was so different from any other teacher I ever had-younger, more in tune with kids our age. she just made everything seem exciting. I often think of her.

I am a teacher and I know I have decided to start this career when I was at high school. Mrs Rech was my English teacher: she was strict and tough, she wanted the best from everybody, no matter what. Most of my class deeply hated her, but she was my heroine, because no other teacher was able to communicate her love for literature and reading. Two years ago I worked in my high school (not a student anymore, the tables turned!), I met her again (now we were colleagues) and I again felt gratitude for everything she had taught me about being a good person and a good teacher.

Sister Helen was the most influential teacher and spiritual guider of my life, especially when a young girl needs one in 8th grade.
I went to a Catholic Scool and was getting ready to graduate to High School and Sister Helen passed away. I was asked to write a tribute to her from all the other students and read it at our graduation ceremony/dinner. I wrote it and memorized it and told all the parents and students who she was; a beautiful person , kind, understanding, spiritual and funny. She said we could do anything we wanted so long as God was in our life and He would help us threw the good and bad times.I am 52 years old and have never forgotten her words and am active today in my church and my 3 grown children as well and they continue to be a blessing to me and my husband. Sorry so long-this made me think about her and gave me a chance to say thank you for her bring in my young life. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
