One game at a time, so now I'll beg Martinez to throw a gem. Nothing would make me happier than watching him shut up the NY fans. Also, gotta love the gamer Lee is, don't know how many people saw his press conference yesterday, but who wouldn't want him, the guy wants the ball.

When I watch Cliff Lee I think to myself, "he'll make a great Yankee soon!"

But Yankee fan hubris leads me to think that about pretty much every current great.

If I were a Yankees fan, I would wonder that too. Hell, they brought Johnny Damon from the Red Sox. That is probably one of the most bitter rivalries in sports.
But I would like to think that Lee would keep in mind that he was knocked down to Triple A ball while on the Expos. And he had to work his way up. Hopefully, he sticks around and doesn't go to the team that throws a lot of money his way.

Easy there, Jahpson. It may not be the last game tomorrow night. It's game 6.

I hope he doesn't go for the money too, but the players get a lot of pressure from their union and occasionally sign with a team they may not be as fond of but offer them the big bucks; thinks Thome when he signed with the Phillies, clearly wanted to stay with the Inidians but hey the Phillies offered more.

Nooch good point, I have heard others say that too, the Yankees have a funny way of getting what they need. Did anyone see Pedro's press conference today? I wasn't a huge fan of the Phils signing him but he is entertaining if nothing else.

When it wasn't yet clear that we were gonna get CC and he was still thinking about Bay Area teams or staying in Milwaukee they talked a lot about the union putting pressure on him to take the best deal and not put his personal feelings into play (which I find unsettling despite having benefited from it). Seven hundred zillion dollars really doesn't feed the kids like eight hundred zillion dollars I guess. Is this Cliff Lee's contract year? He and CC are supposed to be very close friends and I don't think Chien-Ming Wang is ever gonna be as good as he was two or three years ago. And Pettitte may not come back... we could use a pitcher! (Even I want to punch myself at this point )

As far as Pedro goes... expletive, expletive, expletive. I hope Don Zimmer pops out of nowhere and lays him out!

^^I think the Phils have him next year--I am embarassed to say that I cannot say that with 100% certainty--and then he's a free agent. When he arrived in Philly he let it be known that when the time comes he would definitely test the free agent market. I've read that he and CC are close too, wonder how much that will influence his decision? Gotta figure the Yankees will def offer him the big bucks. Market for a good pitcher sucks and well the Yankees have made it clear--hit after hit after hit-- that we need some arms and quite frankly looking around I am not overly impressed with what will be available.

This year's free agent pitching blows big time. John Lackey and Rich Harden, hooray. I am thoroughly unimpressed. I think that's pretty much it as far as this year goes.

Damon and Matsui are both free agents this year and I will be turning all sorts of purple if we do not keep both of them. Matsui no longer has the legs to play in the field (and I don't think anyone in our outfield has a better-than-fair arm) and Posada probably only has one or two years left behind the plate but IMO we need to figure something out and keep the team together as-is.
