I don't know if this has been mentioned yet but it irritates me when people use the word "couple" but they don't mean couple as in pairs/sets.

for example "A couple of days ago, I fell flat on my butt while rollerblading" or "Can I have a couple of those donuts"?

I always say couple in that sense, but I always mean two.

For me a couple is 2

Is that wrong?

For me, a few is 3 and some is 4 or more. After that it gets into a lot and so forth. lol.

Me too! But I also find it to be passive agressive. People use it when they mean no, but aren't quite rude enough to say so.

I had to dig this thread back up.... and sorry to the poster that typed this but just what the heck is t4p? Hmm... is it thanks for posting? Maybe thanks for picture or maybe thanks for peeing in my drink except there isn't quite enough letters for that. Has it really gotten so that we can't type thank you for whatever? I do admit I will occasionally type TIA but I have to be in a real big hurry to do so.

i hate it when people use the word "rock" with fashion.
"i'm going to rock this dress tonight"
"you are going to rock those jeans"

I have no idea why it bothers me. it's so strange.

A little ditty that's caught on lately in the rag press is 'pop tart', referring to a young celebrity. These pseudo-journalists lack creativity and originality. Seems they glom on to a term they think is cute (like 'baby bump') and just use it to death. Ugh!

It's akin to one of my pet peeves - using "party" as a verb. Gah!!!

My dad thinks this but I can see where he's coming from:

Shark infested, as in 'Shark infested waters.'

To infest means to invade in great numbers.

The sharks were there first! How could they be infesting anything?

Sometimes I have tried to avoid ending a sentence with a prepositon but then I get tired of all the verbal acrobatics and say what I originally wanted to say:

Something on which the cats . . . oh, screw it.

Something the cats sleep on?

Thank God I don't do this anymore, but there was a time when I picked up from a coworker the bad habit of referring to things as "These ones" or "those ones."

I use couple in the same sense too. "I'm taking a couple of days off." I mean 2 days off.

I hate most curse feel that if that is the extent of one's vocabulary then he or she needs to go back to school or read a dictionary/thesurus. I have heard the "f" word used as every possible part of speech! It would be funny if it weren't so distasteful! I'm not a total prude, I have been known to slip a few curses out loud, but as a rule I try to use appropriate language.
