Words that grate, words you hate....

Yeah, I guess you can liken it to "No offense but..." when 99.9% of the time the following comment is offensive. I try not to say that either lol

Ok thought of another...when people say they're standing "on line" instead of "in line."
IMO, you're standing IN a line, not ON it.

Not really a specific word or words, but I just loathe it when I'm running a meeting and doing round table (where everyone gets to contribute something) and when I ask the next person to go, someone without fail always says, "....oh, I don't have anything to add but <blah blah blah>"...and they launch into something that IS a contribution to the meeting! Why can't you just start right in with what you have to say without starting off saying you don't have anything to add - ?

I agree with that, I just read someone's post about someone who had died and they said "May he rip", that totally creeps me out, it does sound like they want them to be torn apart.

I agree if it's a totally cracked out way of spelling a name...like when people try to squeeze in all of those "pretty" letters. (hayleigh, ashleigh, etc).

The thing is, my name is a bit more unique/classic, but it's just a variation of spelling...not one that my mom made up

But then Ashleigh is an old English name, and it comes from even older leah which meant wood or forest. So its definitely not recently invented to sound fancy

I hate when people use the world hella. I usually hear it from HS kids but one of my twenty seven year old friends says it and it drives me crazy.

I'm seconding previous posters' hate for 'slacks' and 'whimsy,' and throwing 'supper' into the mix. I don't know why, but the word bugs me.

Starting a sentence "I hate to tell you". I really dislike any sentence that begins with a negative thought.

I think this is more of a grade school thing, at least I hope so.
