Red face When you feel sad, what always CHEERS you up?
I've been battling with bouts of depression for quite a few years now and I am still trying to find that happy median. Just wanted a few good ideas...

What do you do to make yourself feel better/beautiful/good about yourself?

Writing helps me the most. Having all my thoughts, and feelings down on paper makes me feel like I've gotten them off my chest, and I just feel better. Sometimes If I'm feeling really down then I'll just take a day for myself. Mani/pedi, or a massage, lunch, and a little shopping. Takes my mind off things..

The Golden Girls!

Also, going to the gym. Once I can make it out of the house (which granted, takes awhile when I am really down) and in the door of the gym I picture myself playing tennis with Serena Williams.

Clothes, purses, and shoes! LOL. I'm not kidding, but looking at clothes makes me happy when I'm down.

I also go for a run when I'm stressed, which happens to much! haha.

I make sure to get some SUN! Being outside when it's a beautiful day makes me feel less trapped... I also like to go to the beach. the sound of the waves of is relaxing and soothing... and being in the water makes me feel weightless & supported.

Also, I have 2 songs that help cheer me up. "Life is a Highway" by Tom Cochrane.. it's so upbeat! and also "Good Morning" by Willie K. just cheerful songs that always make me want to sing along & smile. :)

talking with people i care about. it doesn't have to be about what i'm going through or thinking about. just talking to someone you have fun with.

it has brought me through some of the hardest times i've had. just being with someone else and interacting (talking on the phone or physically hanging out) helps a lot! getting your mind off what's making you sad

Me too! Being with friends always pulls me out of the dumps. Sometimes I call my mom and listen to her complain about her friends.

I play that song too! Don't know what it is about that song, the music is upbeat, the lyrics are true. Always blast it when I feel the creepy crawlings of a bad mood starting.

Music. Mostly The Beatles and Tom Petty. Writing also helps a lot if you're in a really dark place. I have trouble sleeping thorough the night most of the time so I frequently find myself sitting in my kitchen at 3AM eating homemade pizza, drinking beer and listening to music. That's not something I'd recommend doing just more of a personal thing that I do to keep myself busy and my mind focused on something else.

Hang out with friends. Enjoy a good meal together, talk about stuff (not necessary about the problem) and have a good laugh. I find it really helps take my mind off and time passes quickly as compared to staying in. Retail therapy and writing too, as suggested.

Going for a walk listening to upbeat songs on my iPod - Days Like This by Van Morrison is a personal favourite.

Cooking something comforting - a frenched lamb rack roast with pomme dauphinoise.

Phoning my sister and listening to her mimic Dylan Moran - she's such a dag.

I had a bad day today and came home to binge on chocolate, which made me feel infinitely better!

My pets cheer me up. I also find taking my dog for a walk helps when I'm feeling blue (I've heard exercise can help lessen depression, so that's probably why).

Camping in front of the tv with cookies :)

I just lay there, give myself permission to not think, look at the time, worry about the next day, no of that... just do NOTHING.

Listening to some music and dancing with no inhibition!
I used to listen to Bridge Over Troubled Water and sing as loud as possible, that could be quite comical.
Unfortunately eating junk helps too, Monster Munch & Irn-Bru particularly effective with me.

chunkylover your av could cheer me up that and CAKE!
