I'm going to buy my first car,and just when i think i know what i want, its not quite right.I was told i can either have the car i want or a birkin of my choice,i'll get the birkin myself.I put a deposit on a porsche boxter, but got the deposit back,as insurance is too high.I'd like a new car,but friends say my first car should be a second hand one why!?,ive been driving for a year, and would like to keep the car for at least 5 years.I really like the mini cooper s,but SA said not for first car,as very high insurance group 15,im a bit stuck.

probably not what you want to hear (definitely not glamorous): a honda civic
best car i ever owned, no maintenace issues...gas mileage was incredible...when i sold it the phone was ringing off the hook, so many people wanted to buy it that is what i will get my kids, i don't want them stranded somewhere |

How about smart car? I see that you like mini cooper, so maybe you'll like smart car. I think it's owned by mercedes.

What about a Benz C class? Its not too expensive and Benz engines are amazing. It would last you 20 years if you wanted it to!

What is the price range you are willing to spend on a car? Also, do keep in mind that insurance will be expensive for luxury cars or cars that are more glamorous. I, myself, drive a very practical, non glamorous car although I do have friends with G37s, Benzes, BMWs and I can tell you that if you want a glamorous or expensive car, be prepared that maintenance will be expensive. Just another thing to keep in mind.

My first "new" car (which I sill have and I am paying for) is a Scion TC. Great gas mileage, easy to maintain, and no problems with her. And it's been 3 years so far. And my full coverage insurance isn't expensive either. My first first car was a 83' honda accord. I drove that thing to it's grave.
I think anything that's a glam car is going to cost you a arm and a leg for insurance. My bf has a G35 coupe and he insurance is probably twice of what mine is. (And I think it doesn't help that he's a boy too bc it's higher for them) Plus how long have you been driving for? |

Honestly, if I want my first car, it'd be a Mini Cooper. I hate those Smart Cars, they're certainly look like a trap. In these days, I would LOVE to have a fuel economy car. And for some reason I can't pull myself away from the Coopers either.
I just hope the repair costs, etc. aren't too high. And since they're made and owned by BMW, I just got to hope for the best. But my family is encouraging me to get a Mercedes. As much as I hate those gas chugglers, I would most likely get a C-class convertible. My little brother has the CLK convertible which is probably the closest thing you can have to saving gas besides their Hatchback. I'm driving an old E model and those damn things eat up soo much gas. You can get your full gas tank down to like, half a gallon in a few days. And the gas price these days totaled to like, $40. So yes, glam and luxury cars have HIGH costs, I wouldn't recommend it in today's rising gas prices. But it's up to you. |

the cooper s is insurance group 15,the plain cooper is around group 8,i love it,but worry about the space,i might as well live in the show room,as allways looking, but cooper s has colour i really like,i used to like the vw golf, but so boring.I love porsche, and would have paid the extra for the boxter,as love it,but i might as well live in the petrol station, and in uk,its seen as a poor mans porsche, also i'll be driving across europe a lot

what about a 3 series BMW? I'm not sure if this applies in Europe but in Canada they have a service plan for them that covers everything from what I understand - the new ones are pretty hot and you could always get the convertible.

20K is your budget, and you're thinking about a Porsche Boxster? Did I miss something?
