I just cleaned my car out and it was full of garbage. Literally. I eat and then leave the wrappers everywhere *shudder*. My dad makes me keep a jacket in my trunk as well as my spare tire, some water bottles, and a 'jumper' (I think that's what it's called) just in case my battery dies.

I have a spare tire, windshield washer fluid, oil, ice scrapers, hat/gloves/scarf set of some sort, in the winter I put an extra coat in there too, lock de-icer, jumper cables, and then I line the bottom with an old blanket... for safety reasons as well as for the sporadic picnic!

I will also keep any groceries in there that don't need to be hauled up to my apartment right away (pasta, etc) until I make more trips. Such a pain! But those things generally don't stay in there for more than a day or two.

Extra pair of ballet flats. I wear them as driving shoes when I am wearing heels with my outfit for the day.
Tub of body/hand cream in the glove compartment.
A Post-It booklet and a pen in case I have to write down license plate numbers or something.
Charger for my GPS
iPod charger cable

My pup's travel doggy crate, a bucket/mop (too lazy to bring them into the house...too lazy to mop), 5-6 sweatshirts that I took off after the gym and threw in there, 2 pairs of sneakers, textbooks from a year or two ago, just misc. crap that certainly won't help in case of an emergency!

For my DH 's car, TISSUE UMBRELLA,pen, tiny little note book, Gums, a box of bottle water (I drink a lot of water) are all time nessary.

In the winter, we have Snow Brush Ice Scraper and a pair of huge, warm, unisex gloves to wear when we are cleaning the snow.

For summer , his and mine outdoor coat.( I just put mine in his car, becuause i do not want to wear his coat, leaving him bare arm the in cold summer night any more)

on the top of that, i do have baby wipe and grocery shopping bags( the green ones) in my mini SUV.

If you keep an umbrella in ur car, do not store it in the trunk, other wise you still will get wet bcz you need to get out of the car to get the umbrella.)

I'm such a lazy person, lol. I have a couple boxes and a vacuum cleaner from when I moved at the beginning of the year (yeah....it's sad, haha). Maybe if I get stranded I can vacuum the road! lol

I definitely need an emergency road kit, haha.

Wow, this is a fascinating thread! I remember when I got my first new car, my grandma and parents got me all kinds of emergency car stuff, because I live in a state that has very bad winters. They gave me a tool kit, lock de-icer spray, a bucket of kitty litter (for creating friction under stuck tires), extra wiper fluid, thos heat up handwarmer packet things, an assortment of ice scrapers and a mini shovel, and I could go on I'm sure. Well, the only things I ever used were the shovel and the ice scraper! So I figured there was no sense in carrying around a bunch of junk. Now I just have an ice scraper and shovel, and a couple canvas grocery bags. My car came with 10 years of free roadside assistance, and I work close to home in a city, so I don't feel like I need too much more than that.

In the front of the car, I always keep an umbrella, box of tissue, advil, sunglasses, rag for when the inside of the windshield fogs up, change for parking meters, pens, maps, and my coupon folder- never know when I'll feel like grocery shopping!

My trunk is tiny (VW Beetle) so I have only my beach bag, umbrellas, cover for my convertible top and a cork message board that I bought for my son last year for school that he didn't want. It's still there.

Too much to list but it's all tucked away out of the way since this car has a lot of nice cubby holes and little places to stash stuff.

How can anyone manage to have nothing in their car? I like to be prepared for anything!
