Here are some of the books I read last year (with notes):
J. Maarten Troost: The Sex Lives of Cannibals Getting Stoned With Savages -Troost is a really fun writer and both of his books are about personal experiences while living in Tarawa, Fiji, and Vanuatu. Sex Lives is better, but both are funny - and GREAT books to read while on a beach vacation! I laughed out loud many times. Jennifer Weiner: I've read all of her books, and Little Earthquakes is BY FAR my favorite. Emily Giffin: Baby Proof is my favorite of her three books. I prefer her style of chick-lit over Sophie Kinsella. Stephenie Meyer - Twlight Series LOVE LOVE LOVE this series. I have a weird thing for vampire books and movies, but Meyer's writing really sucked me in. Christopher Moore You Suck, Bloodsucking Fiends, and A Dirty Job. I love his warped sense of humor (can be a bit raunchy). A Dirty Job was my favorite of these and he has many more to read! Bill Bryson A Walk in the Woods - this is about his experience walking the Appalachian Trail. He's a really entertaining writer but also provides a lot of history. I also read In a Sunburned Country (about his travels in Australia) and while I learned a lot about Australia, I found his writing really stale in some parts. |

I was plowing through, "The Looming Tower: Al Queda and the Road to 9/11" (non-fiction) I put it down quite awhile ago, may have to start over. Waiting in the wings is "Book of the Dead" by Patricia Cornwell. I love her forensics and crime books. I also love true crime and just love Ann Rule - she wrote about serial killer Ted Bundy, the book was fascinating. She actually had worked with him many years before on some kind of (suicide?) hotline. What are the chances of that? A book I like to re-read every so often is "East of Eden", John Steinbeck. |

Just finished Eat, Pray, Love - I definitely don't get why everyone is soooo impressed with it, I didn't love it, thought it was just OK. Currently reading Love in the Time of Cholera. Its a slow start for me. |

I am reading The Golden Compass trilogy. I have finished the first two and am on the third. If you like Harry Potter, you might want to give these a try.

![]() Right now I'm reading "Size 14 is not Fat Either" by Meg Cabot. It's the sequel to "Size 12 isn't Fat," a chick lit murder mystery. It sounds godawful, but I swear it's good She's the author of The Princess Diaries btw.I love Sophie Kinsella, too. I've read all her books so now I'm reading the Madeleine Wickham books, starting with "The Gatecrasher". Can you tell I'm into chick lit?!?!

I have never heard of those books by Meg Cabot, I'll have to check them out. I love the Princess Diaries. I'm still waiting on my shipment from Chapters for two Madeleine Wickham books. I'm so excited!! |

I just read Rhett Butler's People, it was well written, but I hated that it didn't fit it into the storyline already set by the previous Gone with the Wind 'authorized' sequel, Scarlett. That made no sense to me...what is the point of being 'authorized' if they don't form a cohesive story.
The beginning Shopolics were good, but become very formuled, very quickly. If you like Sophia Kinsella, I thought Can You Keep a Secret was better. |

![]() That's awesome! I first read one of her stories in "Girl's Night In" and I ran out right away and bought a bunch of her books. I've read ~6 of them so far and I can't wait to read more! For you ladies who mentioned other chick lit novels, I highly recommend "Girl's Night In," which features short stories by Meg, Sophie Kinsella, Jennifer Wiener and others. "Girls Night Out," "American Girls About Town" are also great!

We should start some type of book club, after were down reading it, send it to a tpfer, they read it, write just there first name in the cover date and city and keep it passing on. I have so many books I've read that are just sitting here. I know I could just donate them, I never do. And I hate moving with so many books. I'm guilty of going to barnes and noble buying like 4 books at a time and then they just sit after being read.
