![]() The Shopaholic series is hysterical! Try Sophie Kinsella's Undomestic Goddess as well. She's a great writer of lighthearted novels. I'm working on the last Harry Potter. Bought it back in July when it first came out but I had a 2 month old then.... swore I would re-read the series but I never made it past book 1. So I decided to just jump into book 7. It's time. I'm about 70 pgs in and a little confused, but enjoying it nonetheless. Next on the agenda are Something Borrowed, Something Blue, and Baby Proof by Emily Griffin. And Piece of Work by Laura Zigman will come next after that. Now all I need is for the kids to entertain themselves and for me to be able to stay awake. ![]() ETA: Another great series, if you're looking for one, is the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. There are 6 books in the series and they're all long, but they're worth it (though the last one isn't as great as the 5 that preceded it). |

Just don't start saying "I grok you" or everybody will think you're a huge nerd.

Let's see...kinda schizo reading list (just like everything else I'm into, LOL):
I read Kimora Lee Simmons' Fabulousity book. Great lighthearted read... Currently working through Tim Gunn's book. It's taking awhile...NOT b/c of the book (and I heart Tim!) but I am so bad at finishing books without getting distracted. I just finished reading "miracle in the andes" by Nando Parrado. Some of you may know this is his account of the horrific crash of the Uruguayan rugby team's chartered plane in the Andes in 1972. They were stuck, injured at 12,000' elevation with little provisions and their peers dying around them in unbelievably harsh conditions. Those who survived resorted to cannibalism to keep alive...and a select few actually HIKED over the treacherous Andes into Chile to find help. It is an astonishing story, and believe me if I ever think I'm having a stressful day I remember what I read in that book and it is very inspirational. Next up: the Memory Keeper's Daughter, by Kim Edwards. |

I remember that crash - years ago I saw the movie "Alive" - I think was the name, so I went out and got the book - it was pretty gruesome. I have the Tim Gunn book, too, somewhere, LOL! |

I have read both Nando's recent book + the other one by Piers Paul Read ("Alive"). They each give slightly different perspectives on things...Nando even critiques Piers' portrayals of his friends which is interesting. I guess if you weren't really THERE you won't know what it was really like. And Nando comments that the eating of the flesh of those who didn't survive the crash was really a sidenote in the entire story, but obviously most of the world is going to harp on that because it's such a taboo act to commit...unless you have no other choice. I enjoyed both books...gripping! |
