Let's say you have an interview at a company. The job is great on paper and the company sounds like the perfect workplace. However, at the interview the person who would be your future and only boss is a complete nightmare (yelling at everyone, full of herself, not very nice, etc.). Some of the employees seem scared of this person and the boss basically admits she is a nightmare to work for when she is stressed or there are deadlines (which is going to be all the time).
The work sounds great and it's exactly what you've been looking for. The company is prestigious and the job would be a great stepping stone into the field, but the thought of having to report to this person makes you break out in a sweat. You work directly under this person and would be constantly meeting and communicating with them. Also, the job requires relocating which the company is not contributing to. So, it won't be easy to quit if you hate it. Money is not an issue right now and you do have to find a job but if you don't take this one it won't be the end of the world. What would you do? |

If money is not an issue, I wouldn't take the job. Hating your job and dreading going in EVERY SINGLE DAY is not worth it IMO, just to be able to put it on your resume. Maybe you can find a similar position at the competitor of this company?

If money is not an issue, I definitely would not take this job.
Honestly, even if money were an issue, I'd probably not take it. The boss, herself, admits that she's a nightmare... it's just not worth all that stress, IMO. Work stress has a way of spilling over into your private life and this sounds like it's guaranteed to be, in the very least, a stressful job. Why, knowlingly and it sounds like, unneccessarily, do that to yourself? Good luck finding your perfect job! |

No way in h@ll would I take that job. Having to work is stressful enough, and since finances aren't an issue, I would never put myself through something like that. Your mental and physical health are more important than reporting to a person who acts like that.

I wouldn't take it - you don't need a constant abuser in your life - even if it is your boss.
Edit: A horrible co-worker is something I could work around, but a horrible Superior - no no no no no nooooooooo! |

I had a job interview like that too a few months ago. The person who I was going to report to if I got the position hardly got to ask me any questions. All of the questions came from the department head who would also constantly interrupt me or the other interviewer mid sentence (and I was not going on and on, it would happen after 3 sentences came out of my mouth). I just got a bad feeling too since the majority of questions centered around getting along with others and not "wigging out" (yes he said that) and hardly a one about my skills. I was also asked if I was ok with people who wore neon colors to work! It seemed like a bad atmoshpere but I had been out of work. I decided that if it was offered to me I would have taken it only because I needed a job, but I would not have been overly excited about it. Luckily I was not offered it so I didn't have to make that decision. If I were in your situation and money would not be a problem then I would pass.

If I hadn't had a job in months and needed it to pay bills immediately I'd take it. Otherwise, NO WAY.

Don't do it! Who you report to takes a huge toll on your work and life experience so it's not worth it. Even if money was an issue, the impact that work stress has on your health and other aspects of your life will make it so not worth it
Good luck on the job hunt! I'm sure you'll find something much better! |

I may be the odd ball but I would take it. I love a challenge and truly believe there's a way to cope with every horrible boss. Plus as you said its a prestigious company and great stepping stone. If they will be paying you well I'd go for it.

If it'll make or break your career, take it. If not, no way.

Since money is not an issue, I would not take it. Ive been there before and words cant describe how horrible it is to hate your job. I was stuck at a job I *HATED* for 3 years with the most horrible nightmare of a boss you could ever imagine. Not only was my job hell, it seeped into my personal life too and I became very depressed. But, I learned my lesson, and now wouldnt take a job/boss I hate for all the money in the world. It just isnt worth my happiness...but, that's just me.
Good luck deciding!

if money isn't an issue, I would pass on it.
Something similar happened to me a while back, and I decided to take the job. It was a huge mistake; my boss was a nightmare and then some. The initial description that this guy's a nightmare to work for was putting it kindly. I hung in there for a year and quickly got out of there as soon as another job popped up. At one point my stress level got so high that it affected my health. To this day, I still have nightmares about working there. If there's a do-over button, I would have passed on that job, no matter how prestigious it was. Not worth it. |

Pass on it. In addition to the fact that you'd be miserable, you would also be at risk for being fired by this nasty person...hence relocating and then being unemployed.

usually its the case where bosses act all nice during the interview to lure you in the group, then get all nasty when the pressure of deadlines, etc comes along...so think, if she's already this bad the day of the interview, imagine what she will be like every day, or when things get hectic..eek! |
