Thanks, Ilovepinkhearts, for this info! It always made me cringe to think that the post could rip the cartilage if someone blew their nose.
I have a better understanding!! Thanks so much!! ![]() |

I miss mine!!! I had it done and wowza..hurt like hell when it got pierced!!!! Worst piercing I've ever had and I've been pierced quite a bit (just my regular ear lobes now though, took all the others out over the years). I loved the way it looked and kinda wish I still had it.

^^ Really?? I didn't think it was that painful! I've had a few piercings too.. thought it was comparable to my belly button or so. Interesting!

Well I've had my nose pierced for 6 years now. I use a nose "pin" -- just like an earring without a back and the very tip is a little wider so it doesn't just fall out. I have also used clear nose retainers -- good for keeping something in there but without it being too obvious. I know a great website that sells a good variety of nose pins/studs, just send me a message and I'll give it to you. It has in no way affected my chances on getting a job - I have always worn the clear retainer if I go on interviews or for something I need to look extra professional for, otherwise I see what their policy is on body jewelry after I am hired and most places don't seem to mind as long as its pretty inconspicuous but you could always wear the clear retainer at work & then change it to the pretty sparkly stuff when you go out after work.

And I really didn't think it was too painful - just a little pinch but it does make your eyes water! It was tender for a week or two afterwards. And the jewelry they first put in can't be removed for a certain amount of time. I also suggest using a salt water spray(usually they give you something similar) to clean it and they should give you instructions on how to care for it.

nothing get's in the way when i blow my nose.
and no boogies build up, guys, thats a total myth :) the piercing part itself kinda hurt me a little bit, although i usually don't feel any pain at all when its comes to stuff like that.. but it IS cartilage so the pain is legit haha. it was a quick pain then done though, and the cleaning process is soo simple. i never really take good care of my piercings and none of them have ever gotten infected.. |

Such a wide range of opinions!
I've had my nose pierced for about 6 years now. I just have a tiny diamond stud, most people don't even notice it at first. In fact, my mother didn't even see it until my sister pointed it out to her. I've worked at a range of different places, from a corporate bank to a elementary school and my superiors have never had any problems with my nose ring. I'm a fairly conservative person personality wise and a fairly preppy/classic trend dresser but I don't think it looks out of place or tacky at all...of course I may be biased! |

One of my supervisors has a tiny little nose stud and it looks darling. I personally wouldn't do it, only because I wouldn't want something too noticeable on my face.Instead,I opted for a tragus piercing. It's something not everyone has, but it's also inconspicuous when need be.

I'm personally a fan of piercings and tattoos as long as they're tasteful. I don't have any piercings, but get tattoos in places that are easily hidden if I'm ever in an environment where it isn't acceptable or professional. Where I currently work, it isn't a problem. But when I wanted to experiment with my hair color, I asked my boss first. He appreciated my consideration and gave me the green light to do as I wished (as long as it wasn't a rainbow colored mohawk...).
I would say if you really want a nose piercing, have considered it long enough to know that you REALLY want it, and it's OK in your current work environment... go for it. But if you're still on the fence, I'd recommend waiting it out. Possibly see where you're at professionally a year from now, check it out, and see if it's still a possibility. Whatever you wind up doing, you have to be positive that you'll be entirely happy with it! :) |

I don't really trust cartilage piercings anymore since i got my ear really infected when I was 13 or so. I had a Monroe piercing for a couple years and I really loved it- it was just getting in the way of finding a job.

I had my nose pierced for about 8 years or so, where I initially worked it was ok. Then as I moved into a more professional arena...not so much so I took it out. Its healed with only the tiniest of marks, honestly its only really me that knows its there!
As for comfort and keeping it clean, I wore one of the pig tail or corksrew post ones so it lay flush on the inside of my nose. It never really accumulated much detrius. If it did, when I had a cold and such, I would either take it out and soak it in surgical alcohol, or dip a Q-tip in alcohol and swab the inside of my nose with that. ETA, this is a really old thread! |

I pierced my nose when I was 16 and I decided to remove it last year (when I was 22) because I was tired of it. I know that multiple piercings and tattoos are very common nowadays but I didn't feel comfy with it anymore (esp. during job interviews). I have two tattoos but they are not visible at all (even if I wear a bikini) so I can have them and be comfortable at work/formal events at the same time.
The hole on my nose is still there ... I'd suggest (as pursedoc did) to choose another site. |

I used to have my nose pierced, but the piercing came out while I was sleeping and the inside hole closed up so yeah. I would love to get my nose re pierced though, but I can't wait the job I have now.
