ROFL.

OP, leave the girl be. if she wants to rock her guess T-shirt with her new funds, let her! frankly, i find it refreshing for someone to be so excited over a guess T-shirt versus an obnoxious kain or wang thin-as-crap tee that are so rampant.

Big freakin' deal! Who are you to tell anyone what is 'high end' or 'low end'? One of my biggest pet peeves is when people argue over this nonsense because it's a waste of time and USUALLY ends up making someone feel bad. IMO you should keep your opinions separate.

I can totally relate to this. We didn't have a lot of money when I was in HS and my mom took me back-to-school shopping at TJ Maxx. I thought I hit the jackpot because I found two pairs of Guess jeans that we would not have been able to afford otherwise.
Let it go OP. It really doesn't matter.

Guess is designer...its not Gucci or something but sometimes i see the prices on their stuff and i won't pay lol. i love Guess esp their marciano stuff. i'm also dying to get a pair of the Guess Carrie shoe which i heard are fabulous and super comfy for pointy stilettos. also lots of celebrities wear Guess.

my first bag was a small patent Guess logo bag i was so happy...this was when i was in college and not working.

Well if 32 is old then I feel like Holly Madison marrying Hugh Heffner because my fiance is at the ripe old age of 31 I might have to re-think this...

Make that two of us.

I think everyone pretty much summed everything up here, though.

But to reiterate:

a) she's not old
b) just be happy for her and let her enjoy her purchase without ruining it
c) Guess is designer, but just not as high end as some other designer brands (and Guess is NOT cheap!)
d) your reasons for telling her seem very mean-spirited, immature, and arrogant
e) who cares? This is not what matters in life.

OP-- I also just wanted to add... I realize that it may not have been your intention to come off as mean/arrogant/etc. but it may be worth considering the way you come across, even if it was not your intention. And perhaps reevaluating what really matters in life would behoove you-- not material possessions, but being kind to others is worth more (and sorry it sounds sappy, but it's true). If someone is happy and not hurting anyone, then let it go and let them be as they are.

This is true and you are right. Perhaps I am arrogant (I try not to be, in general) but I did feel like "educating" her a bit even though, yes, I do realize it's pointless. And I didn't say anything and I am not planning on saying anything.

It's just that my friend is old (32)... It's just weird to me that someone so old considers Guess a brand name. Maybe at 21 I could understand... but she's one year older than me. I just still think it's weird to have no knowledge whatsoever about fashion. I am being thrifty with my money these days as well and I'm not buying expensive handbags either, but at least I know what Chanel is. I am not saying that the knowledge makes me any better of a person. I just find it strange that she has no knowledge of it at all.
Mmmmmkay.

I really do think you're trying here..... You mention that you are surprised your "old" friend thinks Guess is "designer." Frankly I am surprised that anyone is befuddled by different people liking different things. Surely you are drawn to this person because you like her personality, so why do you find it strange?

I know some people who wouldn't know if Chanel were sold at Walmart or not (LOL, true....especially here in Ohio), however I think your words are coming out not as intended.....but kudos to you for not saying anything. That's definitely the right move.

My first designer purse was a pink patent Guess. I got it a few years ago when I was in my 30's. I loved it. It wasn't cheap to me, either. I'm saddened that you look down on others because they can only afford things like Guess. I was so glad to hear the responses this thread received, though.

I'm sure this is going to end up being one of those threads where everyone gangs up on the OP, and in this case, for good reason, then end up getting closed.

Jackie, I'll just leave with what I always say to you. I really wish you'd seek out professional help. In almost every thread you create, or post in, you demonstrate that you have a skewed sense of reality. I think you'd be a much happier person if you were able to get some things off your chest.

agree with charles.
jackie, didn't mean to make you feel you are mental or anything. but we really think if you see a professional, you'll be much happier. don't think whoever sees a professional means something wrong with them...we all have issues to deal with. we all have friends/families to lean on...and as far as i know you don't really have a close circle of friends/family.....we are not islands, we need ppl in our lives.
money DOES NOT give you happiness.

As everyone else mentioned, Everyone has different standards/definitions of what is expensive or designer! I think Guess is a designer, and a pretty famous brand, so I can see why she would think the way she does..

I'd hope..you being 31 and my being 23, that you'd know by now that everyone's perceptions are different, and that you'd be more tolerant of your friend's choices. You even went on to mention that her clothes are cheap too... Who are YOU to say that about your own friend? You can think all you want, but please don't say something to her and make her feel poor or less than you..

Just because you may own a few expensive, designer things doesn't make you automatically a classy person. ahem.

I was starting to feel slightly bad for OP reading this whole thread, and then I saw Charles' post. So I have now done my research and learned that OP never smiles. Ever.
I never ever smile but I have smile lines (pics of my lines inside)
Now I feel even worse for her. OP, you should smile once in a while, I think it might make you feel better about the world!
