Here is one of my favorite quotes about my city:

“There are roughly three New Yorks. There is, first, the New York of the man or woman who was born here, who takes the city for granted and accepts its size and its turbulence as natural and inevitable. Second, there is the New York of the commuter — the city that is devoured by locusts each day and spat out each night. Third, there is the New York of the person who was born somewhere else and came to New York in quest of something. Commuters give the city its tidal restlessness; natives give it solidity and continuity; but the settlers give it passion."

-E.B. White

So, welcome to New York and be proud to be a settler!

Welcome, remember, there are no strangers here only people we haven't yet met! Join things soon- a church, a gym, a yoga class. Find people with similar interests ( an art class, ex). And although you want to meet people be very careful at first. You don't want to get in with someone you will later regret meeting. Also, venture outside the city on day trips! I live 70 miles upstate and I can tell you it is beautiful and the people are very friendly. Go to Woodbury Commons shopping. I imagine there are busses to go there, it's a major destination. The ride will be beautifu in the Fall and the shopping is outrageous. Keep busy until you meet a core group and then you're "home" free!

WOW!
i am floored at the advice and support!

I think there would be nothing better than a TPF meeting!
There are so many killer places to lunch and shop that i wouldn't know where to go or where to begin!

I am a hockey, soccer, football, rugby fan, a rock climber, a handbag obsessive, a photographer, (not that you could tell from a damn thing i have posted here! im lazy when its for myself...), I love people and passion and vibrancy and life!
and....
I am IN LOVE with the city! The sounds, the feel the people! It just strikes me deeply.

i have no place to stay so far.
I have been looking up roomates and rooms on craigslist.
trying to find something safe and affordable and close to, if not IN, the city.
Whatever will fit in my backpacks and luggage. everything else is being sold. except my bags, they will stay in storage with a friend.

no job lined up, i think it will be ok, i'm good at what i do and it's not rocket science.

just up and moving for the love of the city and for how unhappy i am here and now.

I love this:
