OP sorry to hear about your job loss, but what you did is just one of those things companies are strict about. Do you not have a phone with internet that you can use if you must check/send emails?

Do you seriously think people will feel sorry for you if you run your private business during working hours (that you are paid 6 figure salary for on top of everything else) and you get sacked for it? Your sense of entitlement is astonishing.

For the prople who love everything Hermes, everything handbag - you might hate what I do for my hobby... acquiring very hard to get hermes birkin and limited LV items with the pure intention to resell on eBay.

The profits I made, goes into the bags I use for myself... but unfortunately for me, I did not realise that by using Bank (the company I work for) emails, and by asking my French colleagues to place an order for me for my bags... I violated the policy on "no-outside-business-undertaking" policy at work and they booted me out the door today.

So my 6 figure salary is gone, what is left is my passion for bags, and now I think, coming to the tender age of 40 and unemployed - perhaps this is my calling. I am someone who love doing deals. I hate producing reports and raising silly recommendation to business to improve their control environment.... its really unsexy and uninteresting. I want to do something in my life... and this something is maybe business or somesort.

Tomorrow, I see my lawyer and see what I can get out of the Bank that have caged me from my passion (handbags/business) the last 22 months. In my mind I have been a committed and driven employee that got bored once in a while (and indulged in handbags). To them, I was just too colourful to be a corporate person. As good and efficient as I was at what I did, it has not worked out, and I think I now need to find my real calling in life.

For those that has supported me and given guidance, thank you.

For those that would like to meet me and buy me coffee, I am in London, please do... send me a private message. I can no longer afford Hermes now... but I will live vicariously through your postings.

In the mean time, I need to xxxx not allowed!

Re-reading thru this, I have to wonder what the intention is of the OP by posting on here.
The OPs sense of entitlement is astonishing!!!
You were working and earning a 6 figure salary yet doing what you did smacks of pure greed!
ALL employees that work in the banking profession know what is expected of them when they are hired in such a trusted position. (You would know that you were in violation of their policies).
Your second paragraph "you may hate what I do for my hobby" sounds like you are bragging about it.

You may believe what you want to believe, but the above quote shows how your mind works. trying to sue the bank???

Does she honestly think people would feel sorry for her???What is her real intent???

I'm a bit surprised w/ your naivete that you didn't realize conducting a "business" during company hours is severely frowned upon.

Perhaps the basic employer/employee rules in London are a bit different than the ones in the US. But my assumption is that they are the same.

I have nothing else to contribute to this thread.

Good luck on your job search or any future opportunities that may arise.

My personal opinion is that one's cell phone or Blackberry is a terrific way to send emails any time one happens to be in front of a computer that belongs to someone else!

you crack me up, girl

I really start thinking we have a troll here. One would think an employee with such salary would be at least smart enough to be aware what basic employer policies are, and not even some specifically pertaining to her company, but standard everywhere.

The one thing that has not been raised throughout this thread is the OP's coworkers.

It is a difficult position to be a co-worker, being asked for a personal favour during company hours - what should someone do in that position ? Turn down the request and build up animosity? Report it to HR, and have the original favour asker figure out who snitched ? And if someone just does the favour, they too are also breaching company policy. The environment created could have caused hardship on the coworkers as well.

OP, I wish you the best of luck at your future endeavours, whatever you may end up pursuing.

^^^ITA! And if the OP asked subordinates to help her, they in turn may have been afraid to decline and perhaps risk negative job performance feedback. That alone would be cause for dismissal, add to that the using company resources for personal use, conducting money-making schemes on company time and it's no wonder they fired you!

To respond to the poster who said we're being too harsh on the OP: the problem here is OP has not learned her lesson. Had she posted about how sorry she was and had she acknowledged her mistakes, the responses would be quite different. Those who chose not to learn from history (and their mistakes) are doomed to repeat it. I believe we're just trying to show the OP that her sense of job entitlement is unjustified.

Or perhaps someone trying to drum up pity business for her soon-to-be launched handbag resale service.

Not much in this story has a sense of authenticity.
