Default How to unclog a toilet without a plunger

Ever had a toilet clog on you at the wrong time? Here is how you can unclog it if you don't have a plunger at your disposal (or are too embarrased to ask for one).

Get the bathroom trash can or any other large vessel that can hold water and make sure it is empty. Turn on the water and get is as HOT as you can. Fill the trash can with steaming hot water. Quickly pour the hot water into the running/clogged toilet. *Now I know that this might be a little scary since you are probably thinking that you have already clogged the toilet and now you are going to flood the bathroom, but if you pour too slowly this will NOT work* Once you start dumping the hot water into the toilet it will flush and everything will go down.

I learned this trick during a bachelorette weekend with some girlfriends. Six of us were staying in a suite with a really terrible toilet. It worked everytime!

Should you be pouring in while it's flushing or re-flush it?

lol i just always shove a wire hanger down there and jiggle it around. i'm kind of a clean freak in, uh, that area, so i usually end up clogging mine with toilet paper at least once a week, and when i don't have a plunger, that usually breaks up the paper.

if it's clogged with things other than paper...uh, y'all are on your own! but the hot water idea sounds interesting.

I've done that twice and both times they didn't work so I had to go out late at night and buy a plunger . Oh well, I might try the OP's tip next time. Thanks for sharing!

Let's just say I know my way around a plunger. (I'm like Amanda with the whole toilet paper thing.)

Thanks for the tip, though!

It'll save me the embarrassment of having to ask for a plunger when one isn't readily available.

i think it's probably because the heat helps break down the toilet paper - even if you poo a lot, it's usually the toilet paper that clogs things up, i think.

i'm really glad i already ate dinner.
