if it's clogged with things other than paper...uh, y'all are on your own! but the hot water idea sounds interesting.

I understand.

When visiting some relatives of my mother in a very poor city in Mexico that is what you had to do to flush it EVERYTIME. The water pressure was pretty non existent. It was pretty tedious. I was at least happy the bathroom was pretty much indoors!

Great thread! I'll keep this in mind since we don't have a plunger.

I've heard hot water with a few squirts of dish washing liquid works too.

ummm, I think I'll wait about another hour or so before I eat!

Great tip - thanks, OP!

If is it clogged, then it is probably still running...if so, just pour away.

Thanks for the tip! I am like Amanda and Caitlin when it comes to TP usage... one time on vacation I clogged 3 different toilets in 3 hotels. I just figure that it's the toilet's fault...

I remember watching my parents do that when I was around 3 y/o. It's weird that it's one of the few things I remember about that apt...

I also remember it seemed very tedious.

I have pretty much known this since I was a small kid. The house we lived in in Maryland was on well water and we had a septic tank...so any time the power would go out, we couldn't flush the toilet - this was especially horrible during hurricane season. We usually filled up buckets, wash bins, bathtubs, etc with water so that we could flush the toilet using this method when we had to pee or ...yah

Why not just keep a squirt bottle of water in the bathroom? You will be cleaner, and use less paper.

Or wet wipes? They seem to clean it up more efficiently than just regular tp alone
