Question How do you move clothes?

When switching apartments, moving from one house to another, etc., how do you pack up your clothes?

Do you just fold them into boxes? Then put the hangers in another box?

This looks pretty ideal (from UHAUL.com) but at $8 per box, I'd need about $800 worth of them...

I fold them in boxes with hangers still attached. When I move it is a lot of boxes, so I try to keep them around the same size.

I fold most of my clothes and put them in suitcases and then put all of my dresses/nicer items in their garment bags so as not to get wrinkled or dirty in the move.

I proceed to steam all of the clothes I put in the suitcase upon unpacking.

I think I remember that my husband and I just left the majority of our clothes in our dresser drawers and left the moving of the furniture to the professional movers. We, of course, packed about a week's worth of clothes to wear until the movers arrived at our new house.

I threw them in a large trashbag and threw it on my back like Santa clause.

Ditto.
I have never "packed" clothes. Sometimes I'd have to take the full drawers out to make the dresser lighter, but once in the truck, I'd just put the drawers back in. The stuff on hangers I moved myself using my car.

I once moved 5 times in 5 years (I can not tell you how much that sucked).

Hmm. Well, I don't even own a set of drawers. My closet is almost as big as my bedroom, so I pretty much only hang things... It just seems like such a time-consuming process to take things off of the hangers and fold them into boxes! I think I will just take them off the hanger and put them in the car. Good idea, ladies.

Sadly, we don't own a car. We'll have to rent a UHaul van. I'll be sure to spread out clean towels for my clothes in the back... lol

For our last move, we used those hanging boxes - I think they were called "Port-a-Robes" - and I have to say I would never go back to having my clothing moved any other way.

They're such a great idea; you can leave your clothing hanging up until the last minute, whisk it out of your wardrobe, into the boxes, tape them shut, and a few hours later it's all hanging up in your new wardrobe with zero fuss and no creases to speak of. I remember we were offered a partial refund if we returned the Porta-robes in good condition within a specified time frame, but we wound up giving them to another couple who were moving a week or two after we did.

I really don't think you would need anything like 100 of them ... from memory, my wardrobe fitted (okay, crammed) into about four or five and DH took another two or three. If the ones you're looking at are anything like the same size as we used, count on 20-25 clothes hangers per box. And do ask if there is any sort of return/refund available.

The first time I moved, I packed everything in boxes and had to rehang everything. I learned so the second time I just kept the clothes on the hangers and moved everything into the car so it was less time consuming.

I had some of those hanging boxes when I moved, the moving company let us borrow them, but they were pretty useless, think those particular ones had seen better days though. For most clothes I would keep everything on the hanger and fold them into boxes or tie a bunch of hangers together with an elastic band, put a small hole in the bottom of a black bag then put it over the clothes, then tie the top, which by now will have become the bottom.

I bought heavy duty garbage bags and cut a whole in the bottom so that I can throw it over a bunch of clothing on hangers, a la the dry cleaners. Then, they get folded in half for easy transport, either in a big box or by themself.

Those wardrobe boxes are great but I'd rather put that money towards furnishings for the new apt.
