i take off the hangers and fold the clothes. i've never had to move all my clothes at once, only some of them to and from college..so they were just folded and put into many suitcases..

I always hire a moving company. Not a big 18 wheeler or anything - just one of those Starving Students type places that sends 2 guys and a truck. If you ask them, they'll bring those hanging boxes for you. And the best thing is, they carry all of your clothes up and down the stairs, etc. They'll bring you the boxes, and you load up your closet while they put the rest of your stuff on the truck, and the clothes boxes go on last. Then they pull those out first and take them to your new closet so you can unload all your clothes again while they bring in the rest of your boxes. They're usually like $50 or $100/hour, and it really doesn't take long - I've always done it in 2-3 hours. Worth the $$$ to me not to have to carry all that stuff myself!

Great idea!!! Thank you.

I went all college student ghetto and did the black plastic garbage bags. I also packed clothes into my suitcases and brought them like that.

I too did the Santa Claus thing, except for the really nice stuff which got the hanger-in-the-backseat treatment.

You can call a moving company that sells used boxes and you can get those hanging boxes for about $2.00 used or less than $8.00 new. I use those so I don' t have to unpack my stuff just transfer it to the closet from the box.

I can't imagine the hangers actually staying on the bar during an out of state move, when the boxes would likely be turned topsy-turvy. Also not sure how stable they are.

When I moved from California to Chicago, I just shipped all my clothes, folded up in boxes. I couldn't think of any better way to do it. Maybe someone here as good ideas?

I shipped all my clothes when I moved from IL to NV too. The hanging boxes are pretty durable, but they're tall (like 4'), so they won't fit in a car or an SUV. If you were using a U-Haul for a state-to-state move, I think they'd be fine though.

LOL... i do this too! i use several heavy duty garbage bags and place all of my clothes in there (or whatever else that does not fit in suitcases). my clothes are usually the first things i unpack anyway, so it's not like they're all wrinkled when i take them out. i did this every year when i moved to different apartments in college.

I put them in boxes with the hangers still on.

The boxes you posted are very efficient, but if you need a lot of boxes, it's expensive. If you are leaving your clothes packed for a short period of time, they won't wrinkle that much, especially since you are hanging everything soon afterward.

Usually they have arrows on them to show they must be handled in a certain way. They work really really well. Almost all of my male friends use them for their suits.

I take my hanging clothing and take a big garbage bag and cut a hole in the bottom and put it over the top of a handful of hangers. I'd just lay the clothing on top of the big stuff after it was packed. The little stuff like panties, t-shirts, etc. I just put in big heavy-duty garbage bags.

they have arrows on them, so any decent mover should keep them upright.

i'm moving now, my clothes is pretty much all in suitcases and boxes (off the hangers) and then I have 1 of the wardrobe-type boxes for my better clothes (gowns, leather jackets, etc) that I didn't want to wrinkle.
