I am going to a potluck fundraiser tonight. I will be making a dish as well as giving a donation to the cause. Do I need to bring an additional hostess gift as well?

No.
If this is for a nonprofit, and you want to make an elegant gesture, then you can designate your donation to the cause "in honor of Ms. XXXXX" who is hosting the fundraiser. That would be as close to a hostess gift as I would be interested in coming in this particular situation. |

If it is potluck, then no, you don't need an extra gift. Otherwise, flowers or a bottle of wine are always appropriate.
