Default has anyone tried any roommate finder service?

I'm moving to NYC next year and I think looking for a roommate is the best route for me to go. I wanna live in Murray Hill and I just can't afford living by myself with the type of building I want to move into. I've been checking Craigslist and emailing people but I haven't gotten any replies. I don't even know how Craigslist really work, I've just been copying the craigslist email and sending my info to that address. Anyway, was wondering if anyone here had any luck with roommate finder services? Doesn't matter if its free or if I have to pay some fee, just need to find a roommate for January of next year. Hope someone here can help. Thanks!

You should also try looking at listings on facebook, and also posting your own listing letting people know what you are looking for. Good luck!

i used one years ago, can't remember the website, but it was specifically for finding a roommate. i made contact with quite a lot of people but in the end none of them worked out. almost had a super nice roommate but then she ended up getting a job offer in a different city.

but i thought the website was great. people can upload pictures of the space available so you have an idea of what you're getting into. it possibly might have been roommates.com you have to pay to contact with people but i think it makes it worth it.

I used one when I needed to move asap and was pretty desperate. The guys I moved in with were definitely bachelors. One of them stole the batteries out of my unmentionable toy. If you go through with this, get a lock on your door and make sure you are the only one with the key!

^^ Needless to say I don't live with them anymore. And the toy is long gone too. It was a regretful experience, but it could have been prevented with a lock on my door.

& It still gives me the creeps thinking about it.

I found my roommate on craigslist, and she is awesome. Keep emailing people, and you'll eventually find someone.

Are u allowed to change the locks when u move in? Good thing I've always locked my room even with my roommates right now in college. You can never be too safe.

The thing is I'm not sure how craigslist work. I've been copying that craigslist email that's on every ad's page and just pasting it to the email that I send from my yahoo account and no one's replying :( No one ever leaves their phone numbers. I don't know if I'm sending my emails incorrectly or my move in date is just too far from now. Did you find your roommate by emailing her?
