You know there are those songs you hear and you're just like, "Oh my GOD! I remember that!"
These I remember from seventh grade End of the Road - Boyz II Men (Whenever there was a dance, this was one of the slow songs played! We would slow dance in that awkward seventh grade way: your hands on his shoulders, his hands on your waist. You're trying to look everywhere BUT at him, because if you accidentally end up looking at each other, it's really uncomfortable!) Achy Breaky Heart - Billy Ray Cyrus (Someone taught me the dance that goes with it, and I was so excited that I knew it!) It Must've Been Love - Roxette (Again one of THOSE slow songs played at every dance) Baby Got Back - Sir Mix A Lot (I remember our sixth grade graduation party at Coral Sands beach and that was playing. At the time, my friend and I were SO disgusted with the lyrics. That's my favorite song now! When I was in college, I requested that song at dances!) These remind me of college, for various reasons: You Remind Me - Nickleback Ain't It Funny - J. Lo You Can Do It - Ice Cube Number One - Nelly |

in highschool, i used to try to outdrive whatever stress was plaguing me at the moment while playing ani difranco (not a pretty girl and plastic castles) really really really loud with all the windows down. any song off either one of those albums instantly gives me that giddy angry f* the world invincible teen feeling and i usually smell sea salt, even if i'm far away from an ocean.
my mom used to play pink floyd dark side of the moon and neil young harvest moon on long car trips to grandmas. i can't listen to those albums without smelling cheetos, sticky sweaty vinyl, and feeling faintly carsick.

I always have happy memories when I hear:
"High and Dry" by Radiohead and "There is a Light That Never Goes Out" by The Smiths They both take me back to my youth. |
